So, for the LJ audience and the facebook audience, thanks to the wonders of technology, here is how I got engaged.
Obviously, it started with me meeting Andrew just over a year ago. After some long chats and a few non-dates in 2008, we decided to give that "dating" thing a try. It didn't take very long at all to realise that there was something special going on...
Without going into too much sappy detail, here's how it happened.
He whisked me away from an afternoon with friends and drove us into the city. We got there shortly after 5pm and went down to Darling Harbour. We sat and enjoyed the sunset together and the change of light over the city, which was very pretty. He had reserved a table for us at Zaaffran, a nice Indian restaurant in the Harbourside building. We had an outside table, with glorious views of the city/harbour. Really lovely. The food was good, too. Once the table was cleared he got right to it *grin*
He got me to close my eyes and brought out onto the table a heart-shaped box decorated with paper roses. It's so pretty! Inside the box were bundles of notes tied together, resting on a bed of confetti-like stuff, which Andrew informed me could be put into a bath and would dissolve....cool! It smells nice. I was instructed to open each of the notes, so I did. They each had something written on them...they were bundled in 3s, each containing a note with a memory of our relationship, something he loves about me, and something about our future together. Under each written comment was a letter. I picked up pretty quickly that the letters underneath would spell out "Will you marry me?" :p At the end I said that I knew what it was, and he wanted me to say it, but I refused - I just wanted to hear HIM say it!! Which he did, after pulling the ring out of his pocket. Of course I said "yes" (or rather, "yes yes yes yes yes!")....
And that's how we got engaged!
Here we are, sitting by the harbour before dinner:
And here is my ring, taken in the early morning light this morning, when I woke up at 6 (thanks bodyclock!) and couldn't get back to sleep!
