I missed this when just glancing through my Entertainment Weekly Fall Preview issue. They had a fold-out Emmy ballot piece that included predictions on who would win from Michael Ausiello (billed as "The scoop master"), Lynette Rice ("The industry insider") and Ken Tucker ("The critic"). For lead actor, all three picked Jim Parsons. Here's what they had to say:
Ausiello: Parsons was never better than in the Christmas episode, in which an emotionally defective Sheldon hugged Penny after she gave him the best gift ever: a napkin drenched in Leonard Nimoy's DNA. Wisely, that's the one he submitted to Emmy voters.
Rice: The Academy loves an underdog, which is why I think Parsons will get the nod this year for his exceptional portrayal of the the bristly theoretical physicist.
Tucker: It's a long shot, but I think Parsons will will. His closest competition -- Alec Baldwin and Tony Shalhoub -- have already been recognized.
