As-Yet Untitled End of the world story Preview3pirouetteJune 19 2009, 14:51:54 UTC
Since starting at the end of this week I'll be away for about 8 weeks with limited internet access for my summer job, I had decided about a week ago to challenge myself in the fic area. I started hand writing a post-apocalyptic story (suggested somewhere on the site a while ago) in the hopes that I'll actually post scans of some of the pages as part of the story. For everyone's enjoyment, and in the WORST cliffhanger move ever, I'm going to post the first three entries of this Journal/diary style story. You'll get more/the rest in September. I hope you enjoy it!
~~~~ June 13th (or 14th) 2009 My name is Penny. I found this notebook in the apartment of my friends Leonard and Sheldon. I'm going to try to document this the best I can. I hope.. I hope a lot of things right now. Maybe someone will find this.
Three days ago the rest of us holed up on the third floor. The first is flooded. We raided what we could from the other apartments-> food, blankets, pillows, clothes... I took this pen and notebook from Sheldon's desk. We also took their emergency kit from the front closet.
We've only gotten clips of chatter on their emergency short wave radio. Nothing on the regular radio in a day now. The electricity is still out and it's getting dark...
June 14 We think it's the 14th, at least- a Sunday. Any good record of a disaster (at least ones I've seen in movies) need a story of what happened. Well, the truth is, we don't know.
All anyone knows is that sometime between 2am and 4am Eastern Standard time on June 6th, power grids across the United States and Europe started to crash. Mayhem, real and true mayhem, ensued. After only about a day of no news and fear and confusion, people rioted, formed gangs, looted...
We holed up in here, staying in our apartments like we were told in the last communication that go out over the radio. A lot of people left. Some died.
June 14, 4pm -ish
I've decided to add the time to my entries to I can write more than one entry a day. If I keep my entries to a page, I can make just under 200 entries. (The mathematical scribbles on the first few pages are Sheldon's- I don't have the heart to get rid of them or write over them.) This entry is about us, here, in the apartments building at 2311 North Los Robles, Pasadena.
There are 7 of us. Me, Penny, from 4B. Mrs. Vartabedian from 3B (an older, widowed woman in her 60's)The Knocks family from 3A: John, Jenny and their 6 year old son Todd. There is Robert, the 16 year old who lived in 5A with his father (who died in a riot sometime around the 9th) and Emily, the 5 year old friend of Todd's who had been staying with the Knocks' overnight while her parents were out of town for their anniversary. (We haven't heard from them, can't get in touch with them, either...)
Everyone else has left for some reason or another. The Knocks don't want to leave in case Emily's family comes to find her. The rest don't know where else they'd go or how to get there.
My own family was in Nebraska. It's too far for me to even think of trying to get to now. Plus, I'm not sure I could leave with knowing I left 2 young parents and an older woman alone with three kids to fend for themselves. I'm hoping my friends will make it back here and find us. They'd know what to do, I'm sure of it.
As of this afternoon there has been no radio contact or transmission that we can pick up. The power is still out and the basement is still underwater. The first floor is almost clear, we might brave it tomorrow.
~~~
I hope you enjoyed it. I'd love any comments/criticism... I'm still formulating the plot- so I'm open to any suggestions!

I'm definitely intrigued. I love that Penny is not with the guys and is being responsible for other people. Liked the bit about her not being able to write over Sheldon's notes and that she trusts that the guys will make it back to her and figure out what to do. This is very promising and I look forward to more. :)

This is a really good start. Love how you conveyed Penny's thoughts! Even in a EOTW senario she didn't have the heart to scribble out/ write over Sheldons scribblings.
