The 'message' that sitting round watching movies is a waste of time
It reminds me of the John Lennon quote (or at least, what I've seen on tumblr being attributed to him), "Time you enjoyed wasting was not time wasted." (Not to mention the slippery slope, of what media is worthwhile. I have plenty of friends who would consider the fact that I went home and watched BBT a waste of time - surely there was a happy hour somewhere I could have gone to.)
I love, love, love Bob Newhart, but I'm actually a little glad that he's unlikely to appear very much given that Professor Proton is dead. Watching the "youtube" throwbacks was kinda sad -- if I wanted to watch people bitch about their job and being cranky, I'd open the door to my office and talk to the woman across the hallway from me. Based on the way Sheldon previously, and Leonard tonight, talked about Prof Proton inspiring them I would have thought in his hayday, he'd have been more engaging and fun to watch (I'd just have a hard time imagining that guy, talking like that, would have had a long running kid's show; the sarcasm worked well when he was a for-hire party guest who was expecting little kids and got Sheldon). Bill Nye, or even Fred Rogers.
Also, loved the Star Wars themed foods. Much better than most the things listed in the Star Wars cookbook.
(Also, something kept bothering me last night about Penny at the funeral -- I finally looked it up today, and last season it was that Penny accompanied Leonard to a memorial service for a faculty member; so her 'I've never been to a funeral' wasn't true. Perhaps never to the funeral of someone she knew, but she'd been to a service before.)
I was just like fine maybe I will stop watching your stupid show, Lorre, jeez.
I wasn't sure if the YouTube flashback was meant to be an episode of his show or a more recent show; the snark about whoever was writing his lines made me think it was his show, but you're right, I can't see that lasting long for kids. Maybe a small proportion of particularly jaded teenagers.
The Star Wars puns were awesome; I got them all and I haven't even had Sheldon make me sit through the movies (which is what I assume happened to Penny).
And yes, what's continuity? Although maybe she wasn't counting that because it wasn't someone she'd actually ever had any personal contact with.
