I know I'm probably 'piling on' to what everybody and their aunt has already observed about this episode, but once again we're seeing that selective amnesia about everything that happened before this season, with Sheldon supposedly having never before had to issue a public retraction, other than an argument with his brother as a child. I thought at least "Bawwy" would rub his nose in the previous embarrassing retraction occasioned by the boys' sabotage of his experiment in the Arctic!
*sheesh!*
On the other hand, I chose to read Penny's comment about not really caring about someone you were involved with until he broke up with your or otherwise became unavailable as a direct reflection on her attitude towards Leonard (who's no prize as a boyfriend in his own right, obviously!). Sheldon, meanwhile, is at least 'tall, thin, and famous' -- all qualities that Penny apparently appreciates and envies

I was screaming Arctic, Arctic, Arctic. TPTB cannot be this dense can they? No way Barry or Sheldon does not bring it up. How does Sheldon not tell Leonard, you Blanked me at the Arctic and you are doing it again. Great points about Amy and Will. Sheldon gets all the blame for Will not coming back though. :( I liked and also felt bad for Raj. Raj thrown under the bus fotr the failure of the Ships. :( Leonard is now the brilliant mind and gets the girl? What else can Leonard get now? I join you in being depressed. :(
Wow. They really glossed over the Arctic. Yeah, that had to be intentional. It was the colossal mistake that changed the tone of how Leonard (in particular) was perceived by many people so of course it wasn't worth bringing up. ... With everything being erased I feel like Beverly Crusher in the episode when she's in the pocket dimension and people are disappearing without anyone being aware of the changes except her. :o(
They brought Kripke into the episode for him to put Sheldon down and to give Leonard a pat on the back. That was the *only* purpose of his short presence in this episode. As if taking away Sheldon's success using Leonard was not enough, they had to have Kripke rub it in Sheldon's face too.
Leonard singlehandedly is now smarter than both Sheldon and a team of Chinese scientists. If I had any doubts about his Mary Sue status before, I don't do now. If he ever gets a Chancellor's Medal or even a Nobel Prize in one of the future episodes/seasons, I won't be surprised at all
( ... )
Leonard is most definitely a 'Marty-Stu' a character that no one can stand or relate with because they supposedly 'can do no wrong'.
I too wouldn't be surprised if Leonard is the one who wins a big shiny award by the end of all of this, I doubt the writers like Sheldon enough to give him the one goal he's always dreamed of accomplishing in his life (way WAY before Leonard ever thought about it in fact). Just watch he'll become just as empty and lost as Penny, those two are facing the exact same issues with one another and they don't even know it. This show is so damn predictable it's not even funny.
The fact that he always has to point out Sheldon's or anyone else's bad qualities in order to bring the attention away from his own disadvantages does indeed say a lot about him already, he can't accept the fact that he's not the 'nice guy' he convinces himself to be neither does he put any effort into bettering himself either.
Oh, yes, 'Marty Stu' is the word for the male counterpart of 'Mary Sue'. Thanks for correcting.
"The fact that he always has to point out Sheldon's or anyone else's bad qualities in order to bring the attention away from his own disadvantages does indeed say a lot about him already"
I REALLY despise those characters who can get anyone and anything they could possibly want in the blink of an eye, which is what TBTP has been doing since season one and I personally count Amy having a good portion of Mary Sue characteristics as well.
Sadly it looks as if Sheldon, Penny, and Raj may not ever be able to catch a break for a very long time, IF AT ALL! And even if they do it will not last for very long, it'll most definitely be temporary for them. Because it seems as if they're the only ones who are imperfect in every way. Yeah I'm not buying that one bit, now I'm not saying that they're totally innocent but they're not completely guilty of everything either. *sigh* Poor unfortunate souls....
Or they may just keep kicking Sheldon. Make him have sex with Amy because he has nothing left to live for and he's too vulnerable to lose anyone. Then give him the prize at the end, so everyone can say "See it all worked out." Meanwhile we are all burning our DVDs in horror :p
Wow. Now I know why I don't read/watch interviews with actors when I'm writing their characters. If season six was the best season yet In JG's estimation there is no hope for him. ...Wow, a Sheldon-free episode. It'll be a double feature since it'll be me-free too
( ... )
From the promos I don't think it's a totally Sheldon free episode as much as a how would our lives be different episode.
As far as the Lenny and Shamy people I have seen many more comments about the writing of the couples this season, especially the Shamy people. It kind of funny but some of them are now complaining about things people here have been going on about for a while, like the writer's habit of telling one thing and showing another. I have seen a lot more comments about the lack of continuity and general lack of planning or direction. Of course this is just in the spoiler thread and episode discussion thread, I don't venture into the two ship threads so maybe the views there are different.
I was in particular thinking of the nut jobs I've seen making nasty comments on Shenny stories not the Shamy/Lenny communities as a whole. However, that being said, it cheers me up that even they are coming to terms with the decline of the show. If the writers are out to dissatisfy everyone they're half way there already!
Yes, I saw an interview by Galecki where he said how he thought season 6 was the best season, how he always liked the romance part of the show, how the romance stuff was what attracted him to his character in the first place and how exploring romance and romantic relationship(s) is exactly what he signed up for when he joined the show. He also said how he's 'earned it' after 6 seasons. I don't know what he meant by that exactly, but he went on to say something about how in early seasons there were sooo many paragraphs/pages of dialogues in the scripts of each episode, and there are no more of them anymore, which he apparently considered a good thing. I suspect he was referring to the scientific lines and dialogues especially the ones delivered by Sheldon/Jim. If I can find the interview (it's a very short one and it's done when the actors are on some kind of red carpet), I'll share the link here. But on the whole, watching that interview, I got the feeling that Galecki was on the same page with the writers and was happy with the
