So, the 'Lenny' sweater is irritating, confining, and one that Leonard ultimately has to chose to remove. I am not naïve enough to think the writers are actually trying to say anything real with this, but they HAVE to know that people who ship Leonard and Penny refer to that coupling as 'Lenny'. Why make that a deliberate choice to put that name on the obnoxious sweater when they so obviously are in love with the Lenny ship? Sometimes I think TPTB just enjoy playing games...

Oh, I think they very much enjoy playing games. I hadnt even looked at the sweater from that point of view, but you are absolutely right. In fact I saw some Leonard/Penny people cheer because now tptb had used Lenny in the show(they already used Shamy).

I think it was because 'Leo' wasn't enough of a diminutive and that's all. I mean, it's a vaguely humorous coincidence, but I don't think they picked it solely because of the ship name that some people use. (I for one don't use portmanteau ship names at all unless I'm being intentionally silly, like 'Koothrapolowitz', because they annoy me, and I know I'm far from the only one.)

That's blasphemy we all know Leonard can all but walk on water, the writers say so every week ;)

I like your idea about the sweater being a representation of the LP relationship. I didn't think of the sweater that way (I thought "Lenny" was just simply his nickname back home, kinda like "Shelly" for Sheldon), but now that you've said your interpretation, I hope that's also writers' intention. I guess it was just a coincidence but it definitely fits. LP is just simply boring and annoying and makes your brain itch. I wonder if there are some of the LP supporters who also thought about it like that.

Sorry for late post but I just got around to watching this show on DVR last night. What I liked most about this episode was, just like Sheldon's three dimensional chess, it can be seen on multiple levels. People can choose to read more into this episode than meets the eye, or not, since it can be interpreted in a variety of ways. It could have just been simply about an itchy sweater, or it could have been about more than that. The writers leave it up to the viewers to decide one way or another. I really like these types of episodes and tend to gravitate towards the latter ( ... )

Yeah, isn't it great!! I have absolutely no sympathy for the Orangeland fans whatsoever. I really don't know why they are so upset anyway. I think the Smokey the Bear analogy for Leonard is very apropos. He seems to have definitively put a damper on the slow and controlled burn that exists between Sheldon and Penny, hasn't he?
