A Very Merry Saturnalia: A Sheldon/Penny Exchange

Oct 23, 2011 15:44

As October comes to a close, your mods are pleased to announce that it's almost time for Saturnalia!

For those of you new to Paradox, Saturnalia is an annual gift exchange in which members sign up to create fic, art, mixes and wallpapers for fellow community members.

Whether you're new to Saturnalia or you participated in last year's exchange, please make sure to read the rules and guidelines thoroughly before signing up. We've made some major changes to Saturnalia this year that will think will improve this exchange for everyone.

RULES AND REQUIREMENTS:
  1. You will have until November 6th to sign-up to participate in this year's exchange. Read the rules and the sign-up form thoroughly. Any sign-up that doesn't meet requirements will be deleted, and you will be asked to resubmit.
  2. You will have until December 9th to submit (via e-mail) a rough draft of your assignment. The rough draft should represent 75% of the requirements for any fan art, fan mixes, or set of wallpapers submitted. The rough draft should represent the required word count for fan fiction, although it can be unedited and unbeta'ed. If you're unable to submit a rough draft, you must still contact the mods by December 9th. Your assignment will be given to a pinch-hitter, but you WILL NOT be considered in default. However, if you do not submit a rough draft AND fail to contact us by December 9th, you WILL be considered in default. Your assignment will be given to a pinch-hitter, and you will not be permitted to participate in next year's exchange.

(We understand that crises and complications sometime arise. Please do not hesitate to contact us as soon as you're able if something does come up, and you will be allowed to participate next year.)
  3. Gifts will be submitted in two waves: The first round of gifts, completed by the person to whom they were assigned, will be submitted between December 17th-23rd; the second round of gifts, completed by pinch-hitters, will be submitted between December 26th-31st.
  4. Gifts may be any of the following: fan art, fan fiction, fan mixes, and wallpapers. The requirements for each type of gift are:

    • FAN ART must be a completed work (no drafts or sketches unless submitted in addition to the completed work) and involve a minimum of two mediums (pencil, colored pencils, pen, charcoal, etc).
    • FAN FICTION must be a minimum of 1,500 words and should be beta-read.
    • FAN MIXES must have front and back cover art and a minimum of 8 tracks. The tracks must be uploaded to a site like MediaFire.
    • WALLPAPERS must be one of the following sizes: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, or 2048x1536. A minimum of 3 unique wallpapers is required.
  5. Sheldon, Penny, and/or Sheldon/Penny must be the focus of all requests and gifts, but you may include other characters and pairings.
  6. Your gift must involve at least one of your recipient's prompts, but doesn't have to include all of them.
SIGNING-UP:
As we noted earlier, we've made changes to this year's Saturnalia, and that includes how you sign-up. This year, you will be signing-up by filling out this form. Please read the following thoroughly, and if you have any problem signing-up, please comment to the Problems Signing-up thread and a mod will try to help you!

  1. While we want to have as many members participating as possible, please only sign-up if you genuinely think you will complete a gift.
  2. All fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are REQUIRED.
  3. You must have a valid e-mail address to sign-up.
  4. You may request AUs or crossovers with other fandoms, however at least ONE of your prompts must be non-AU AND non-crossover.

  5. Please pay careful attention to the form when signing-up. If your sign-up does not follow the exchange's rules, we will have to ask you to resubmit.
  6. Prompts must not be song lyrics or quotations.

  7. We are providing spaces for longer prompts (i.e. Sheldon and Penny get stuck in the freezer at The Cheesecake Factory. Chaos ensues.), but we also ask that you use the Wildcard prompt to submit 3 one-word prompts (i.e. sneakers, yellow, astronomy) so the person creating your gift will have a variety of options to choose from.
Please check out the sample form below and if you still have questions, do not hesitate to ask.

SUBMITTING:
  1. All submissions should meet the community guidelines as well as the guidelines for the exchange. That means, using proper headers, lj-cuts & tags.
  2. Along with the regular tags for fanworks, please tag your post with "!a very merry saturnalia: 2011"
  3. Somewhere in the subject line or header of the post, please make sure to note "Saturnalia gift for USERNAME".
  4. You may post prior to the assigned posting dates if you need to since the post will go into the moderation queue. But we will not approve the post until the assigned date.
  5. Failure to meet the guidelines of the challenge or community guidelines may result in your post being rejected. If we reject your post, we will ask you to fix whatever the problem is and resubmit.
PINCH-HITTING:
Below you'll find a link the form to sign up as a pinch-hitter. Pinch-hit sign-ups will stay open until the very end of Saturnalia. This means you can sign up now if you know you'll want to be considered as a pinch-hitter for sure. Or if you are currently unsure whether you'll be available to pinch-hit later on, you can sign up in the future if you become available.

What is pinch-hitting?

Pinch-hitting is essentially being a back-up artist/writer/mixer. If someone who has signed up during the regular sign-up period is unable to complete their assignment, then we'll go to the pinch-hit list to find a suitable replacement.

How does that work?

If someone has signed up and drops out of Saturnalia, we will go to the pinch-hit list and find the first suitable replacement (meaning what they have offered matches what the recipient has asked for). We will contact that replacement with the provided prompts, and once they confirm receipt of the pinch-hit assignment, they'll get to work. Submissions for pinch-hit gifts will take place after the regular Saturnalia period, starting December 26.

If you'd like be a pinch-hitter, please sign-up using this form!

SCHEDULE:
October 23 - Sign-ups begin.
November 6 - Sign-ups end.
November 9 - Assignments sent out.
December 9 - Rough drafts due.
December 17 - December 23 - Regular posting period.
December 26 - December 31 - Pinch-hit posting period.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK THEM IN THE QUESTIONS THREAD. A MOD WILL REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
