Writing Workshop #2 - How to Write Penny

Feb 25, 2011 11:26

Welcome to the second Paradox Writing Workshop! If you missed our first workshop on writing Sheldon, check that post out here. These threads will be utilized as a tool for you to ask and answer questions with other members of the community - the more you put in to these threads, the more you will get out of them.

Feel free to ask questions. Share your writing. Give feedback. Interact with others in this community so we can all grow and learn from one another.

TOPIC TWO - HOW TO WRITE PENNY

Time to touch on the second half of our pairing - Penny, the girl with the mysterious last name. How do we go about keeping Penny in fanfic true to the Penny we see onscreen? Can Penny still be Penny no matter what situation we write her into, and how?

Questions to get us started:

- How important is it to you to fill in background details about Penny and her family in your fic?
- Many fans say that aside from shipping S/P, they also ship Penny/Career. How do you deal with Penny's ambitions, talents, etc. in your fic?
- Is Penny the easier character to write than Sheldon or are there times when she is equally as difficult?
- Is there truly a "right" way to write Penny in fanfic? Is there a "wrong" way?

We also encourage you to share your writing samples for feedback. We’ve turned on anonymous posting so you can feel free to post and give feedback without worry of embarrassment. Please remember to stay classy - if someone is requesting feedback, keep it positive and constructive.

Reminder: If you want more one-on-one feedback on your writing, we highly recommend enlisting the help of a beta reader. The beta post is here and is always linked in the sidebar to the right for your convenience. Also, if you feel confident in your own skills, you can offer to be a beta reader in that post!
