I decided to make one of those thought surveys that Kelly is always posting. No one ever reads my answers because Kelly is my only active friend on LJ anyway.
Come up with five song lyrics that triggered much deeper implications in your head, most likely way beyond what the musician intended.
Megadeath, Sweating Bullets: “Bloodstains on my hands and I don’t know where I’ve been.”
Just thinking about waking up covered in blood that isn’t yours and having no idea where it came from, now that is horror. Although I suppose this is exactly what Megadeath intended.
The Killers, Human: “Sometimes I get nervous when I see an open door.”
Why would open doors make someone nervous? Do you really want to know? All the potential meaning of “open door” run through my head, and what might come through one that would give somebody a case of PTSD. Also “are we human or are we dancer”? What the heck is dancer?
3 Doors Down, Citizen/Soldier: The whole damn song
While I’m sure Citizen/Soldier is supposed to be an homage to the troops, when I hear it I visualize a zombie apocalypse instead. “You did not bring this on yourself”, an army turned on its own citizens. “When there are people crying in the streets, when they're starving for a meal to eat.” the people are zombies, “When they simply need a place to make their beds, right here underneath my wing you can rest your head.” that is supposed to be referencing disaster relief services, but my brain turns it into mercy killing the ravenous hordes of the infected. Also when I think of “underneath my wing” I am thinking of the medieval winged death.
Blackmoore’s Night, Magical World: Tone vs. Lyrics
Magical World sounds like medieval festival music, a romantic tune. The chorus is, “Walls built between us, Miles separate us, Yet in our hearts, we share the same dream Feelings so strong We just must carry on, On to our Magical World.” The last section of the song is, “Fear not, dear Juliet, your Romeo's calling He's waiting for you at the end of the song, This world was too cruel... for lovers like you, But here in our hearts you'll always live on...” The magical world referred to in the chorus is death.
Regina Spektor, On The Radio: The first half of the song
While I figure the song is more about rhyme than literal meaning, the beginning of the song sounds like someone just massacred a bunch of bystanders with a hearse. And then there were worms. And then bees. Also the rest of the song seems to focus on our insignificant smallness in the larger universe and the general futility of taking any action. Yet somehow it comes off as a cute little song.
