No offence…rioting

Okay I want to first say that I do not mean to offend anyone by this post. I just simply don’t understand it.

My LJ and DW accounts have been bombarded with posts over the last few days about the riots in London. I have received emails from some USAF friends of mine over there and there has really only been two topics on the World News over the last ( Read more... )

I think it's because (thankfully) we're really not use to this kind of thing. Maybe if it had only been for one or two nights, but this is the fourth night in a row now, and it's in cities across the county, from London to Bristol to Manchester ( ... )

It's horrible being here... Every minute we hear about another place being hounded by the thugs that roam the streets. At first it wasn't so bad in London. But then after the 3rd day it just become pathetic and terrifying for the people there.

I think it's getting more serious because not only is it in London now but it is in Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool as well as unrest in other places. On the first day the protests were understandable and calm. Now people are just mindlessly looting which is sickening. I posted a video over at my journal of someone mugging someone who was injured.

There have also being reports just thing minute of a police station being fire bombed. It's just scary to think that these people have no fear against the law.

It's horrible to see our country acting like this!

We have a really, really small country, so no matter where we are we're probably no more than 100 miles from one of the disturbances by now. It's spread out over so much of London by now, let alone other cities, that you're almost certain to know someone who's too damn close to it.

On top of that, yes, it's pretty unusual here. We had student protests this summer and marches at the G7 and G8 meetings, but they were not riots like this. The last riot I can remember was the Bradford riots 10 years ago, and that was one night of utter terror for the city, after which the rioters' families turned them in to the police. This is just not stopping.

I suspect the difference in reporting is due to a combination of factors ( ... )
