I am taking a class and I need some help.

In one of my classes for college I have to write a paper about religious beliefs and their impact in the government, and I need some help from those of you who are American, and those who are not.

For the Americans: Do you think American laws are/aren’t beneficial to Christian beliefs? Are American laws helpful/harmful to non-Christian faiths?

We are not all like this. There are a lot of us who do not agree with or support the things our country has done over the past eleven years or more. Unfortunately, a good portion of Americans seem to have lost their minds. Way back in the early nineties, the religious right began a campaign to insert themselves into government, and because most Americans are too lazy to vote or just don't care or think it matters, they succeeded. They now pretty much control the dialogue in this country, and almost all of the media. When Clinton won, the Republicans pretty much said they were going to do everything possible to derail his Presidency, like they are trying to do to Obama now. It's not about what's best for their country, it's about what's best for their net worth and hate-filled agenda.

We do not get to see shows from Europe or anywhere else, unless you count BBC America, which shows Star Trek The Next Generation. (I believe that is an American show, nobody told the BBC apparently.) We are bombarded with advertising and celebrity gossip and superficiality, so no one has to think about what really matters. No one has to think for themselves at all. People just seem to blindly believe what they are told. There is little to no real news at all. Even the mighty CNN seems to be run by and aimed at 14 year olds now.

People do great wrongs to both society and individuals but receive little or no punishment, even when their actions directly cause the death of many citizens.

Christians (A blatant misuse of the word. What they advocate has nothing to with what Christ taught.)want to be perceived as victims, but really want to feel powerful, since they were so frightened by what happened on 9/11. Where was their god on that day after all? So just like the Germans did, they persecute anyone and everyone who does not think like they do. They look for scapegoats at every turn, and the rich who really own the country play them like a Stradivarius. The Tea Party was started by rich self-interest groups, or so I've read. People can't seem to see that what they are doing mirrors what the Islamic Fundamentalists did that resulted in 9/11 in the first place. Hate and blame anyone who is not like you. We actually have 'hate states' in my country. My country. Which no longer bears even any pretense of being the country I was raised to believe it was.

I'm not the only one disillusioned. Or the only one ashamed. We were so hopeful when Obama was elected, but the right has done everything possible to derail any gains he attempts to make for the rights of citizens, or for the country in general. I understand why the rest of the world hates us. In a lot of ways, we deserve it. Until more people's brains regenerate, I don't have a lot of hope for us, either. Our new motto is buy, buy, buy; gossip; hate. Our new god is money. Our new anthem is, "I've got mine, so screw you. Oh, but give me what's left of yours first." People die because they cannot afford medicine or medical care. Children starve so rich people's taxes can be cut. It is a disgrace. Truly.

We are not all like this.
- Of course not. :)
It's nothing personal, what I just said. I just gave a general oppinion from my own country. This doesn't necessarily mean it's true. But it sounds kind of true from what you just said.

Thank you for this inside view. It's allways good to get information straight from the source. :) *hugs*

Have a good week!

Didn't take it personally. Just, it sucks that my country has become this, and the world knows it, but still...we are not all like that. Some of us still have brains that work. Not a lot, but hey.
