I am torn

Last month Hershey's bought Dagoba.

That is why there has been an increase in distribution (good thing) but I fear a loss in quality.

I shall watch closely.

Those fuckers. First Scharffenberger, now this.

Hershey chocolate is such bad quality; I cannot imagine it turning out well.

They were unsuccessful at:

1) Creating their own high-end brand (see: Symphony)
2) Selling themselves to Cadbury (blocked by Congress)

So now that chocolate is growing at double digits but the low end market is contracting Mars, Cadbury, Nestle and Hersheys are buying up the boutique chocolate firms to increase their market share. Many many firms have been purchased already.

This may even drive Mars public? Nah, that will NEVER happen. : )

Ah...that explains the oddly wrapped Hershey bar stand at the grocery store. I thought they were attempting to be like the organic nicer chocolates. I avoided buying one, but now am tempted.

There has been a constriction in the low-end chocolate market as there has been double digit growth in the high-end so all the big producers (Cadbury, Hersheys and Mars) are going to try and move some lables up-market. I am sure that some of their attempts will be quite tasty!

Yum.

FYI...Hershey did a great job with their extra dark chocolate bar, but I'm not sure that 65% cacao can ever really be 'bad'!

Wait, Hershey bought an out of the way jungle planet with a Jedi Master's hut and an evil cave?
