Garb questions

Oct 12, 2008 21:56

First off, I had a loverly weekend visiting my family in Cleveland, but I will fill you in about that later, when I have pictures to post. I have some garb questions on my mind though:

1. I'm planning on wearing my purple underdress with my black, ermine spotted trim sideless surcoat to Crown next weekend. Is it okay that the purple underdress is longer than the sideless? You can definitely see the purple underdress, it being quite a bit longer than the top layer. I think it looks fine, but I would like other opinions. On top of it, I may even attempt to be fancy and try to wear one of my circlets with it. We'll see how my hair cooperates.

2. I'm looking at this pattern http://sca.berkeley.edu/garment_pattern/mongol_crossover_coat.html to use to make a mongol coat for baronial champs. I, however, am really awful at trying to figure out pattern pieces from written directions like this. Soffya, I know you explained it once, but I need some more help again! :(  I wanted to try to cut out pieces by myself, since I have some free time this week. Any and all helpful explanations would be appreciated!

**edit**

OMG! Did you ever see the roadrunner and coyote cartoons, where they have an idea and the lightbulb goes off?  I just had a lightbulb moment! I got it! I think I can make it and even draw the pieces myself! Of course, I'm going to try with cheap dollar a yard stuff first, but still! go me!
