There is a big difference between writers (actual, hardcore writers) and emo kids (shitty poetry doesn't make you a writer, sorry) when it comes to pain. Yes, they both write about it, thrive upon it, but the emo kid will derive joy from this pain by transforming it into something so incoherently written about love (or doughnuts, who the fuck knows?). A writer will use this pain to make certain parts in certain stories, poems, lyrics, etc. to make them more heartfelt. A writer's pain is personal, it's kept close, in a notebook and tucked away until they shyly bring it out to perform (i.e. letting people read it). An emo kid's pain is very public, it's in their pictures, it's on their infamous myspace, it's on their clothes and skin. An emo kid uses pain for attention, a writer uses pain for better stories.
Or not. Whatev.
