Well now look who's decided to come out of hiding. A bit late isn't it? But then that's always how you were. I don't know who you're fooling with that John Smith name. Don't anybody believe cause it's rubbish.

That said, Tobias, report in. I swear, you better not be taking two steps back on me.

Did anyone else hear of a fire in the kitchen?

uphill battle, the doctor is back, conflicted, doesn't know what to think, abandonment issues, 22, bollocks, hurt to type, rubbish

...blimey, I'm going to have half the Barge after me now that they've seen this. The Master must be having a field day --

Nevermind that -- Rose, hasn't Jack ever gone over this with you? It couldn't have been me, not really.

And you've...well, you've seen that sort of thing loads of times! Plastic copy of Mickey Smith, the Gelth in those corpses, Lady Cassandra inside both our bodies, the Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe -- err, Max -- manipulating all those people on Satellite Five, the Isolus inside Chloe Webber...

That's not to say I'm particularly prone to having those things happen in particular, but you've seen it, Rose; you've really been there, and you know it's possible. Far more possible than the alternative, believing that I've left you alone to face everything that's happened to you here because I ran away.

...and yes, all right, I've got a bit of a knack for avoiding things and escaping, but I've got more of a history of making absolutely certain to have you right there with me when we're running for our lives.

The Daleks at Satellite Five -- what about that? First time actually facing an army of them since the Last Great Time War, and my highest priority wasn't getting rid of them; it was getting you home alive.

You can't say you honestly believe everything I've done was just building up for me to let you down here.

Lady Cassandra was in my body? Oh shut up. And no Jack hasn't talked with me, I reckon he's probably busy. And I can say what I want.

And--

Yeah, I remember all that...

I suppose that's possible. I mean we have seen strange things and the other yous seemed a bit off...with the finger wagging and-

You said you wanted a trail run, yeah?

Well--

Here's a question for you.

When I last saw you, the real you back on that beach. What were you gonna say?

It always comes down to that beach...

It really isn't something I need to elaborate on, Rose. It's...more of an implied thing, like...like when you drag a toddler off to the carnival and just sort of assume it's going to be a blast for him, whether or not it rains on his candy floss and gets his hands all sticky and purple, because it's naturally something you'd figure would be a fantastic time for children.

...that got a bit off-track, didn't it.

Point is...it isn't something I specifically have to say, and the reason I was originally going to say it was because it was meant to be my last chance to tell you anything I wanted to say.

Now I've got plenty of time; it's far from my last chance.

Just a tad, yeah.

Right, then. Well suppose I could give you a trial run.
