tonight i had the most lovely experience going to the gay muslim dinner at the COC (amsterdam's main gay center).
to create an analogy for further clarification, in the netherlands muslims are with the same level of prejudice as iraqis are seen to americans, more or less. so having a gay muslim community get-together was such an amazing experience.
i sat around a table with people from all over the world, not only muslims. there were people from jordan, morocco, france, spain, etc. i loved the conversation and everyone kept changing languages to speak with eachother. unfortunately, my dutch could only carry me far enough to say 'the food is delicious' and 'yes', but everyone spoke english beautifully and were polite enough to speak it when they noticed one of us american students were tuning into their conversation.
the food was SPECTACULAR. oh my god, life changing. it was couscous, but with this amazing meat, raisin, bean, potato, carrot, i-don't-even-know-what-else amazingness. such a special treat.
it was such a wonderful opportunity that i feel very please to have been a part of.
plus, one guy invited me to his drag-trans party coming up in october. i'm seriously so excited. private gay parties in amsterdam must be insane.
side note: is it really sad that i've just now, 2 years later, realized how to modify the layout of my journal? haha, yes. i think so.
tea time.
pps, i really only want to write journal entries to see what the mood-star does. it's the best smiley ever.
