Dad had a TIA on December 20 ( he woke up unable to talk and with a temperature) and went into rehab on December 26. Means a lot of running around for all of us kids. Luckily Bob the eldest was in town for Christmas, so we had a couple of extra hands for all the tasks and running back and forth to the hospital. Dad's problem was swallowing and that meant speech therapy. Bob also arranged for the caregiver organization to stop by daily to see if Mom was ok. This was after she fell getting out of bed and couldn't get any purchase to get herself off the floor. She banged her head, scraped her elbows and left a blood trail all over the apartment. She had left her fall alert in the living room "charging", so she learned the lesson of not taking it off at night. Got Dad home after the new year with thickeners for all his liquids. Hot coffee with thickeners..yuck!
We left to go on a cruise on January 29. With a promise that they wouldn't get into any trouble while we were gone. They didn't....they waited until we got back. Both of which I will write about in another installment.
By the way, our old homestead sold for a song - but it needs lots of work, has no land and was sold to someone who will love it. I lost the love a long time ago. It was built in 1847 and had been in the family for 100 years
