Yuletide 2010

Jan 01, 2011 17:37

This did turn out to be an exceptionally frantic Yuletide writing experience, but both my recipients seem to genuinely enjoy their stories, and I received an absolutely fabulous story in return, so I am quite content.

My gift story was in the Dick Francis - Sid Halley fandom, and it's Unbreakable by Edonohana. I can't praise this story highly enough, because it has a pitch perfect Francis voice and is also an exceptionally good character study of Sid and Charles. It also does a remarkably good job at showing their understated affection for each other, just like in the Francis books. Give it a read - I know you'll enjoy it!

I wrote two stories this year, although neither one of them the mega-word monsters I wrote last year. Since I wasn't able to take time off either of the two jobs, I had to tone down the word count just a tad, lol!

The story written for my assigned recipient Philomytha was in the Hunt for Red October fandom, called Daydreams and Flower Wreaths. This is Jack Ryan/Marko Ramius preslash, but the real focus of the story is on Marko and exploring a bit of his Lithuanian background. It's also movie!verse rather than book!verse, and not only because this was the recipient's choice. I felt Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery were perfect choices for their respective roles and thoroughly enjoyed the movie version of the book.

I would like to give an extra set of kudos to my beta reader for this story, Muccamukk. She is one of those extra special betas who not only tells you what doesn't work quite right, but gives you very good suggestions on fixing them. I didn't have time to make all the changes she suggested, but the ones I did definitely improved the story. Thank you, dear beta!

The second story I wrote is for Lyrstzha in Barbara Hambly's Those Who Hunt the Night. You can find it here: Shades of Twilight. It's an A/U version of the consequences of the Paris vampires' attack on James Asher. This is a story I've been meaning to write for an exceptionally long period of time, but I only had a few evenings to pound it out before the deadline. It is, therefore, a much shorter version of the story that I had planned in my head. It is also unbeta'ed, since I was writing literally up to the wire, so if someone wishes to volunteer for that task, please drop me a line!

I'll definitely be back to this story someday with either a sequel or a revised, longer version of the story, but I have a few other projects ahead of it, lol! The next project (after a few weeks off for recovery time) is attempting to finish "Black Waters". I would also like to get back to my "Up Close and Personal" universe, but we'll see where the Muse and RL take me!

yuletide
