I was thinking about this on the drive into work this morning. I had intended to put together a Stanley Cup bracket but, considering the length of the playoffs and the prevalence of injuries, I decided to do round by round.
Round 1, Western:
Phoenix over Detroit in 6: I'm probably throwing this one but I really want to see the Coyotes dump the Red Wings in the first round. Sorry Modano.
Anaheim over Nashville in 4: Good job making the playoffs, Preds, but the Ducks are going to punish you.
San Jose over Los Angeles in 6: Sharks should be good for one series.
Vancouver over Chicago in 6: I'll be singing the blackhawk goal song for weeks, long after they're on the golf course.
Round 1, Eastern:
Pittsburgh over Tampa Bay in 5: The pens just turn it on, even without their top two.
Boston over Montreal in 7: Montreal spends their emotion early an Bruins move on.
Washington DC over Rangers in 5: too many injuries
Buffalo over Philadelphia in 6: Buffalo is riding high enough to clear the Flyer hurdle. Don't trust 'em much beyond that, though (and I'm a fan!)
Playoff Hockey! I feel like I should watch Slap Shot in honor ('cause Versus isn't on our low end cable package).
