Today Melbourne felt less like Melbourne, and more like Delhi. Or Bangkok. The temperature hit 37 degrees, and the air was thick with smoke. Watching from the air-conditioned comfort of the bookshop, I half expected to see a rickshaw or a cow or something pass by the front windows. The smoke only began to clear - at least in Elsternwick - late this afternoon. It was a very strange sort of day.
