Mediator (Chapter 20)

Summary: Ueda Tatsuya’s life have so many problem. The first is that his mother is remarrying and he will have a step-father and 3 step-brother.The second problem is that his crush, Nishikido Ryo who he always fought with and seems to think Ryo hates him. What he don’t know is that Ryo loves him too. His third and biggest problem is that he can see ghosts.
Authors note: this multi-chap is based on the mediator novel by Meg Cabot. So those of you who have read it might know some of the plot. But not everything is the same. It is my first time writing so please give me your true thoughts so I hope you enjoy reading this (^_^)

Chapter 20
We went out of the room and saw that most of the vases, frames and plates are broken; must be the work of Horikita-san.
“My Dad’s gonna kill me” Ryo muttered after a whole 5 minutes of silence looking at the condition of the living room.
Jin sighed and put a comforting hand on Ryo’s shoulder “I know. Not to mention your brothers too” And with that Ryo got annoyed and attempted to kick Jin’s butt and resulted them in a cat’s chase and causing the living room and other rooms to look even worse with all the stuff they bumped with.
I - while they were running around like little kids - searched around the house for Horikita-san but I didn’t find her.
“She left” I heard a voice behind me and almost jumped (which I did a little bit). I whirled around and saw that it was Tsubasa and Ikuto.
“Damn it! How many times did I tell you not to approach me so quietly like that!” I said angrily.
They chuckled a bit. “Sorry about that Tat-chan” Ikuto said.
I pouted “Well, fine! But this is the last warning! Now, what do you mean she left?”
“We appeared in front of her and it freaked her out and then she ran out” Tsubasa said smugly “And I gotta say, she got bad attitude”
“Don’t I know it.” I mumbled “Do you guys know where she went?”
“No and don’t wanna know” Tsubasa said as he nuzzled at the crook of Ikuto’s neck and Ikuto wrapped his arms around Tsubasa. Ikuto is shorter than Tsubasa so it makes Tsubasa looks a little childish.
But somehow, looking at these two reminds me of Kame and Jin. Jin always does that to Kame and he always looks so happy. Then I remember, I was so busy with Horikita-san that I forgot the true reason for Jin being here; I want to ask him what happened with Kame.
I knew them since the first day of middle school and they were all lovey-dovey when I met them. It was kind of sick actually. Jin would stick himself to Kame all the time as if Kame is his walking teddy bear. These two were really too adorable (but sickening) that I felt jealous.
Now to think that they are breaking up, it saddens me. These two were like soul mates in front of my eyes and it is weird to see them apart. I’ll think I’ll go to Kame’s place later and asks him.
“TAT-CHAN!!!”
“Huh??! What??!” I asked confused by the sudden shout.
“Geez, we called you like five times and you didn’t react at all. What were you thinking about?” Tsubasa asked me.
I blushed a bit at my stupidity and said “Nothing~ Ne, could you two do me a favor?”
“What” Ikuto asked.
“Could you keep a watch on Horikita-san? I feel a really bad vibe from her……..”
“Sure! Whatever you say boss!” Tsubasa said like a soldier then broke into a silly grin “We’ll go right now!” And then they dematerialized. Please, I know them too well. I know that they aren’t going to look after her now, they are going to make out cuz I’m sure Tsubasa is horny…

I rang the doorbell and five seconds later, Kame opened the door with red and puffy eyes.
“TAT-CHAN!!!” He cried out as he jumped onto my arms.
“K-Kame! Omae, daijobu ka?”
“Tat-chan!!!” He whined with some tears running down his cheeks and he shakes me by the shoulders hard. I was about to say something but he just dragged me inside, slam the door close and pulled me by the arm upstairs to his room.
Then he slams that door too. He pushed me down on his bed and cried on my chest. I didn’t know what to do and the only sound was his sobs. It was kind of uncomfortable with me laying on my back on the bed with Kame top half on me. It kind of looks like we’re cuddling. I just raised a nervous hand to his head and stroke his hair but that just gotten him to crying harder. I let out a tired sigh and prepared myself for a few more awkward minutes.
“Kame~ are you done crying now?? It’s been like 15 minutes!!!” I whined as it passed 15 minutes and we’re in the same position.
“S-so-sorry” He hiccupped.
“That’s okay,” I said as I stroked his hair as we finally sat up. His eyes were really red and his cheeks and nose were red too. He looks like a clown… “Now, will you tell me what happened with Jin?”
He nodded and started on an explanation of what happened. “Well, it all started 2 weeks ago. My dad was assigned in the branch in Okinawa because the CEO there retired. It was a great opportunity because if my dad agrees, he will be the CEO OF THE Okinawa branch! I was so happy at first but then I realized that I’ll have to move away and worst of all, I will no longer get to see Jin again!” And then he got up, grabbed a tissue and blew his nose very loudly. I kept quiet to let him continue.
“I know that Jin will be mad and I’m absolutely known that the time we have left will be spent in arguments about me leaving and he will try to persuade my parents or whatever to get a way for me to stay. I don’t want that because I have to move to Okinawa and there’s no other way. So I kept quiet so that these last 2 weeks so we can spend the time being lovey-dovey but yesterday…” And blew his nose again.
* * * * *
“Kame~ Where are you? I’ve been waiting at the gate for 20 minutes now” Jin said as soon as Kame picked up his phone.
“Jin, I told you this morning that I have a meeting with the baseball club after school didn’t I?” And all Kame received were silence. “You forgot didn’t you?” And again, silence.
“Damn, I totally forgot…” Kame heard Jin muttered softly into the phone as if talking to himself.
Kame laughs “Thought so. Just go home because it will be a while till the meetings over. I’ll go to your house after I’m finished but I have to drop by my place first to change”
“Fine…” Jin muttered unsatisfactory on the line.
“Bye. Love you”
“Love you too” Then they both hanged up. Kame went back inside the club room where every member was frowning.
“So, as I was saying, I’m moving this weekend…”

Jin was walking towards his home as Kame had instructed but he decided to surprise Kame at his house instead so that was where he headed. As he arrived, he noticed that the shoe rack, bike and a few things outside the house was missing. He just shrugged it off and went to the door and rang the bell.
“Hai~” Someone answered and opened the door. It was Yuya, Kame’s younger brother. “Jin nii-chan!” He said happily and Jin ruffled his hair with a smile.
“Can I come in?”
“Sure” But then he looks reluctant “But it is kind of in a mess…”
“It’s okay” But when Jin entered the house, he stopped in his track. Almost all of the furniture was gone and there were a lot of full boxes on the ground. “Yuya… Are you guys moving to another house or something?”
Yuya looked surprised “Yeah. Didn’t you know? The whole family is moving to Okinawa except of course, Yuichiro ni-chan because he is already married and has a stable job here”
But Jin didn’t hear any of it. As soon as he heard that the family was moving his brain stopped working. The word ‘moving’ kept repeating in his head. No wonder Kame has been very weird and secretive lately. If it was something small he would forgive Kame but moving? Now that was big with a capital B. Jin just ignored Yuya and went upstairs towards Kame’s room. Upon his entering his heard clench. Empty; Kame’s room is totally empty except for his bed, a few school books and uniforms.
“Jin ni-chan, did you really not know?” Yuya asked hesitantly behind him. Jin just nodded slowly. “Then can you please just act like you don’t know anything? I don’t want Kazu ni-chan to be mad at me…” Jin was about to snap that no way would he does that but then an idea spring to his mind.
“Sure” he said. Yuya frown turn into a smile but Jin face was still hard. “Can you explain to me all the details?”

“Jin~” Kame yelled as he arrived. He had gotten a text message from Jin to meet at the park instead. The place where they first confessed. He was excited because Jin was being romantic again.
“Kame~” Jin greeted him back with a big grin. As he arrived he quickly jumped into Jin’s arm
“Why did you want to meet here?”
“Just wanted some fresh air. You know I hate being cooped up in the house” Kame smiled and they just snuggled on the bench watching the sundown. Jin was playing with Kame’s hair while Kame just hugged Jin’s waist.
“Kame, want to go see a movie this Saturday?”
Kame was silent
“What’s wrong?” Jin asked.
“It just that…This weekend the family is going away somewhere so I can’t” Technically it was true…
“Oh, that’s too bad. Where?”
Kame squirmed uncomfortably. “You don’t have to worry”
“Fine…” Then they just stayed quiet a little uncomfortably. “Do you remember when we first confessed to each other?”
Kame smiled “Of course I do. I still remember like it was just yesterday.”
“We both promised that we will be by each other’s side until the day we died” Jin said it with all seriousness but Kame didn’t noticed.
“Yup!” He said happily.
“Do you think we will still be?” Again, Kame didn’t notice Jin’s tone.
“Of course” Kame said without hesitating but he could feel tears in his eyes but he held it back. But Kame did feel Jin stop in his actions of caressing Kame’s hair and then Jin pushed Kame away. Kame almost fell down but steadied himself before it could. “Jin?”
But Kame breath caught in his throat as he saw Jin’s eyes. “Wow. Never knew you were a big fat liar. That makes me wonder what else have you been lying to me?” Kame still looks surprised “I know Kame. Know that you’re moving. When are you going to tell me? The day when I visit your house but it turns out that someone else lives there? Or by hearing it by one of our friends!?” Jin screamed the last sentenced and Kame flinched and tears were falling freely down his face. “I thought we had a better relationship than that after all these years but it turns out you were just playing with me.” And then Jin got up and walks away without turning back even when Kame was screaming Jin’s named to come back. Kame just sat there curled into a ball and cried…
* * * * *
“A-and then I tried to s-speak to him ever s-since but he won’t listen to m-me!” Kame sobbed. I just tried my best to comfort him.
“You should have told him in the beginning…”
“I know!” Tears were streaming down furiously down his face “I wish I could do it all over again. I love Jin with all my heart and now I blew it! And the worst of all I will be gone tomorrow without him ever forgiving me! Jin… I’m so sorry. Please forgive me..” The words for Jin he just said to himself and he keeps repeating that words even though Jin was not there. Well, to Kame’s thoughts. I look over at the now opened door and saw Jin and Ryo standing there but Jin with tears down his cheeks. I got up slowly and left Kame’s side and shut the door.
Kame thought that he was alone so he sobbed more loudly but then he felt arms around him. He look through his watery eyes and saw Jin. His eyes widened and he flung his arms around Jin’s neck.
“:Jin! Jin I’m sorry. I’m so sorry! Please forgive me Jin please!” And he kept saying word like that even after Jin hugged him tighter and murmured ‘It’s okay’ over and over again. Ryo and I who were listening behind the door smiled soft ly to each other before I hugged him. I hope that those two could resolve their problems.

“Kame~! Please don’t go~!” Whined Koki as he would let go of Kame even with Maru pulling at him with jealousy and Jin with annoyance.
“Oi! Koki! Let go of my boyfriend!”
“Koki, let him go now!”
“No~ Kame~” and he just hold on tighter even with Kame’s face turning blue. The rest of us just stared in amusement. Maru just couldn’t hold it anymore and grabbed Koki’s ear and pulled him. “Ouch! Ouch1 Ouch! It hurts Maru~”
Just then at the intercom a woman’s voice said that passengers of gate 15 must aboard the plane to Okinawa. Kame smiled sadly and said “Well, this is it. I got to go now…” But then Jin hugged him tightly and whispered in his ear. I didn’t know what he said but later he told me that he said “Wherever you are and how far you are, I will always love you and will soon see you again” Kame smiled with tears and hugged him back.
As Kame gave his ticket to the counter lady, he turned and gave us a wave. Then he walked into the gate and that was the last time we will see him for a very long time except Jin who with determination in his eyes, vowed that as soon as he graduates, he will go to Okinawa to college there and be near his precious Kame.
Even minutes after the door closed, none of us moved and all of us with tears on our faces. I felt a presence around me and saw Horikita Maki. She had an unreadable expression on her face but close to sadness. I knew she wasn’t a threat so faced forward again. Even with Kame gone, life still continues and we all just hope that the sadness in our hearts will be gone soon.
“Let’s go” Yamapi said and with a hand on Jin’s arm, softly pulled him away from the place and we all followed.

Kame is gone… from the fic because next chapter is the last and surely not going to involve Kame back or else the story will be longer but if I decided to make an AKame sequel he might be back… Sad news to AKame fans, this maybe the last AKame pairing I’ll ever write… and least if it’s not one-sided.
Okay, based on the poll in my journal, I create ‘which fic you want me to update next’ type poll and the highest is ‘Mediator’ so that’s why I’m writing it. The next chapter will be the last and I probably will update it sometime next week. I’m really, really free recently but just lazy. So sorry! Comments are appreciated and also if you want me to write an AKame sequel which I will see if I’m in the mood but not promising anything unless you AKame lovers are persuasive enough :P

Kame is gone… from the fic because next chapter is the last and surely not going to involve Kame back or else the story will be longer but if I decided to make an AKame sequel he might be back… Sad news to AKame fans, this maybe the last AKame pairing I’ll ever write… and least if it’s not one-sided.
Okay, based on the poll in my journal, I create ‘which fic you want me to update next’ type poll and the highest is ‘Mediator’ so that’s why I’m writing it. The next chapter will be the last and I probably will update it sometime next week. I’m really, really free recently but just lazy. So sorry! Comments are appreciated and also if you want me to write an AKame sequel which I will see if I’m in the mood but not promising anything unless you AKame lovers are persuasive enough :P
