Okay, so I was only going to use my LJ for fic updates and occasional pap, but I couldn't help myself when it came to the influence Christian Voice has had on Jerry Springer the Opera
This doesn't do much for generating controversial postings To be honest, I never expected a huge response, anyway. Being the socialble so-and-so that I am, I hardly have the largest of friends lists ;-) I just happened to have a bee in my bonnet yesterday about people generally expecting others to realise that their opinion is the one to have (which I won't rant about here, seeing as it involves family). I stumbled across the Jerry Springer 'revelation' at the wrong moment and it had me absorbed for the rest of the evening; so much so, that I had to get it out of my system somehow before attempting to sleep.
I know nothing of Jerry Springer the Opera. Jerry Springer the Opera is definitely a UK thing at the moment. If anyone should ever attempt to show it in the US, I'm positive you'll hear about it ;-)
My favorite was the people who wanted to put filters on the computers at the public library because a few irresponsible patrons were using them to look at internet porn (shocking, I know!). I can imagine it now: the liberal library of the twenty-first century, complete with a computer room for over-18s... Okay, so maybe I'm holding my hopes up too high...
It doesn't really have anything to do with Christianity. I accept that there are people all over who are not Christian and would enforce their visions of how the world should work onto others. Unfortunately, in this instance, the groups involved are doing it under the banner of a Christian God, which doubly irks me because it does nothing for helping others to understand the Christian perspective. All those religions that I have looked into so far (only the tip of the religious-iceberg, I admit) all seem to offer many positive ideas on the way we conduct ourselves within society, and it's just a shame that people are driven dismiss these aspects due to an incident such as this one.
I feel like I'm preaching here, so that could be my cue to stop!
How about hopping on a plane and coming to visit me! I wish. If I could, I'd be there! I'm so jealous that I'm missing out on the shocolatecon...
