It's good to be home

I think I need a vacation from vacationing. Fortunately, school started today...does that count?
The last month has been crazy hectic. No more scheduling 3 trips in one month. By the end of it, Josh and I were (physically) sick, homesick, and tired. But, we had a good time on all of the excursions and overall it was worth it.
Way too much happened to give more than a cursory treatment of everything, but here's the breakdown:
From August 5th-August 20th (actually 21st) we were in San Diego. But the last day doesn't really count, since it consisted of spending most of August 20th in the airport only to have our flight ultimately canceled, spending the night at the Holiday Inn by the Star of India, and then flying out a day later. Not fun times for me. But aside from the flying, the San Diego trip went extremely well. We saw all our loved ones, ate lots of Mexican food, and just generally had a terrific time.
After San Diego, we spent approximately 48 hours at home before heading out again to Vancouver Island, which is not very far away in terms of distance, but the 2 hour ferry ride makes it feel far away. We stayed in downtown Victoria with Josh's parents for a weekend, ate lots of good food, saw lots of pretty flowers, got rained on a bit, and went to lots of used bookstores. So that was enjoyable. I'd like to go back there with just Josh and spend some more time exploring.
After Victoria, we were again home for about 2 days, just long enough for Josh to acquire his graduation present to himself, a 42 inch LCD TV with surround sound and a PS3 (for the Blu-Ray player). We enjoyed this briefly before catching a train to Seattle and meeting up with some more San Diego friends to enjoy the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). PAX itself was a bunch of fun, and it was good to see friends, but Josh and I were a little bit at the end of our rope physically and mentally. Josh got struck with a bad cold just as we got to Seattle, and both of us were just generally tired of traveling around and living out of suitcases. At least in Seattle we had a nice hotel room all to ourselves, unlike the various sofa beds we had been enjoying for most of the rest of the month. We geeked out at PAX for a few days (we saw Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton!), and then, finally, on Monday, we came home for good.
Modes of transportation taken in the last month: plane, train, boat, skytrain, taxi, streetcar, bus, truck and car.
Done with the traveling now.
Soon there will be more details and hopefully some pictures.

travel, flying, geekiness, family, friends
