Halloween 2006

So, Vancouver holds an annual "Parade of Lost Souls", which is a day-of-the-dead sort of thing where they rope off a section of city for pedestrians only, and people come in costume to wander the streets and interact with various performers. Supposedly there's fire spinners and a bonfire and all kinds of crazy stuff. I say supposedly because, although we technically went to the Parade of Souls this weekend, we didn't actually see much of the Parade. We got all dressed up (although our costumes were not nearly as awesome as last year), and took the Skytrain over to the closest station to the parade route. There we met up with half a dozen fellow SIAT students and started to walk down towards where the parade actually began. Everyone's dressed up, which is rad. There were a ton of people in costume walking around, which was a lot of fun, and Josh and I had out pictures taken with a couple of groups of tourists. As we're walking, someone in the group suggests getting a drink before hitting ithe main parade area, and everyone agrees that this is a good idea. We spend some time scouting for a bar that isn't jam packed with other people who've had the same idea, and eventually one of our friends, Kevin, suggests that we just buy some booze at the liquor store down the street and go back to his place to drink it, which happens to be two blocks down. This seems reasonable, so we procure some liqour and food and head up to Kevin's place, which is pretty rad and features a foosball table in the living room. Whiskey sours are passed around, music is put on, foosball is played, and before we know it, a couple of other people have show up and inform us that the parade is over. I'm a little sad that we didn't get to experience the full Parade of Lost Souls experience, but I had a great time hanging out with everyone, so it's not a big deal. More people show up, including Kevin's roommate and a bunch of his friends, and everyone's just cool and hanging out. Around midnight we all get hungry and go down to this really awesome restaurant just a couple doors down from Kevin's place. As we're eating, a large group of people next to us gets up to leave and puts 3 half-empty bottles of wine on our table and tells us to enjoy. So that was cool. After some excellent food and free wine, we stumble outside to discover that it has, of course, started raining. We run to the Skytrain, make it home without getting too wet, and happily fall asleep. Happy Halloween!

Unfortunately, our camera broke about an hour into the event, so we don't have much in the way of documentation. There's also some photo albums from other things that we've done recently posted on the same page.
