[Narrative] There's no today, only a tomorrow

Mar 23, 2006 00:12

"Eriol." Spinel murmured, so Nakuru, Vicki and Doyle wouldn't hear us.

"Yeah?" I didn't look at him. I was still checking that book's index.

"Twelve o' clock."

"Midnight. So?"

"Um. Happy birthday."

"Is it the twenty-third already?"

"Yes."

"Ah. Good. Thanks." I resumed the quest.

"Don't you think we could take a break tomorrow and celebrate it? Perhaps calling..."

"No. No celebrations."

"But..."

"It's out of the question," I insisted. "I'm not eating cake, blowing candles, opening presents or mail, drinking legal beer, or receiving phonecalls. That's just a waste of time. I'll just let the packages in the inbox, and the messages in the machine, like I've been doing until now."

"I don't agree... It's unhealthy for you to keep up this pace..."

"We can do that later, Spinel. When you lot are safe. There's nothing wrong with postponing it."

"If you say so..."

I'd rather miss one birthday than having the rest of them without my guardians.

[OOC: It's actually the 23rd already in London, real time. And well, for the ones who are planning presents for him, he really is ignoring them until the weekend. Oh, and he won't be able to transport them from Japan to England, just in case anyone was hoping that.]
