So to top off a kind of shitty day yesterday, where I had to work a 9 hour shift on my day off, a guy came into the back room at work and stole almost $700 of cash, I think my WoW account got hacked. I got a 72-hour ban for using 3rd party exploits, and a notice to say my password was reset.

Awaiting reply from Bliz... :(

work, wow

Don't hold out too much hope for your epics, dude. :( That sounds like a hack job to me.

That's the funny thing. I wasn't even playing on any of my 70's. I was on my 47 sham on another server. So I hope that I might avoid having anything sharded...

Once they get into an account and mess up all your gear, they'll generally activate a third party program that does nothing except make Blizz give you a short term ban...this way players don't immediately log in and confirm they've been hacked, instead they have to wait three days before they can log a report, and by then...all the stuff's gone, and the server logs have (possibly, but hopefully not) been deleted.

Or, maybe this is just some kind of fucked-up misunderstanding. That's not uncommon either.

Oh poo. I have already reported it to Bliz. I got booted while playing, and had odd trouble logging back in (ie - it'd keep stopped at random points, and couldn't get onto either server.) But I figured it was just my net connection being wonky, and gave up after a few minutes. Later that night, I got two emails from Bliz - one saying I'd been 72 hour banned, and the other saying that there was a request to change password. I sent an email to Bliz right away saying that I thought I'd been hacked. So, hopefully I won't get fucked over too badly...

As long as the logs haven't been haxx0red themselves, they should show that someone logged into her account from an IP in another country. If that's the case then Blizz' should be happy to confirm that it was compromised, and return all of her purples. Fingers crossed...

Maybe they could have spoofed her IP, but I don't see why they'd bother.

I very much doubt they'd go to the effort of hacking server logs. Most likely they're just after cheap gold. I don't think they have any trouble returning epics; it's gold that I've heard is sometimes not returned... And I don't think time is a big issue. Phatz has had characters undeleted that were gone for months and months before.

Oh, you'll get the stuff back for sure...they slow down your return by changing passwords and getting you banned so it takes longer for Blizz to start following their tracks. By the time bans are removed and hacking's been confirmed and IPs are checked, the crafty hackers have moved on.

They're just covering their own asses...Blizzard should have no problem reverting your character's gear and stuff to how it was before. It only gets really sticky if they get into a guild bank, as I understand it.

So she got back in tonight when the ban expired. All her gear & gold was still there as far as she could tell, so it's all good. Still no word from Blizz'.

Weiiird. :\ Perhaps someone used a third party program to access her account, but got rumbled and a ban ensued? If so, that's bad for obvious reasons...don't like someone? One easy-use program and bam, they're banned for 72 hours. Repeat as necessary.

Or, one of your mods might have been misconstrued by the game as a cheat of some kind...I know a few people who received bans for using Decursive a while back.

Or I just have no clue and I'm totally barking up the wrong tree...who can say. I'm not expecting Blizzard to provide answers though, that's for sure. Useless fucks.

Yeah, I have no idea what happened. I've been playing on an alt that noone knows on a different server for a month or so, so it's not like anyone would dislike me enough to try to ban me. I also haven't updated mods in ages, so that's out.

I'm also half expecting Bliz to freeze my account to investigate the hacking in a few weeks. Yup, thanks for saving me...
