The English one:
The woman put her sad moon-face in at the window of the car. On her left sat Lee Scoresby, and on her right, a visitor. Even with a cotton undershirt on, my sweater feels abraisive, and my ribs hurt. She was only gone for a couple of hours after tea time, so they didn't have to find a baby-sitter. The Baudelaire orphans looked up at the motto and wowed that before they died, they would solve this dark and complicated mystery that cast a shadow over their lives.
The books:
Homecoming - Cynthia Voigt
The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
About a Boy - Nick Hornby
They Austare Academy - Lemony Snicket
And the Icelandic one:
Gatan var enn sofandi undir gulu og rauðu laufi, en unga konan sem kom gangandi horfði ekki niður á laufin heldur á húsin til beggja handa sem sum hver voru vöknuð. Þá greip Mómó prinsessa í brjóst hans og leysti hnútinn. Fæturnir innskeifir í Batasandölum. Við getum ekki frelsað okkur sjálf. Það er komið fram undir hádegi.
The books:
Hús úr húsi - Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir
Mómó - Michael Ende
Guð Hins Smáa - Arundhati Roy
Veröld Soffíu - Jostein Gaarder
Ljúlí ljúlí - Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir
Hmm. This does not make much sense. But at least it was something to do... gah.
