No work tomorrow! Weird. So in celebration (and because I'm not tired at all), here's a music post! I haven't made one in a while, but I've been slowly making a playlist. Here it is. Pretty random - the only thing all of these songs have in common is that I've listened to them a lot in the past two months.

01. The Duhks - Mountains O' Things
I'll be working for somebody else until I'm in my grave
This actually isn't the song I've been obsessed with, but I can't find Out of the Rain anywhere. And this is a nice cover of Tracy Chapman's song. Not very different from the original, but I don't know how they could've made it better, so. I don't understand how The Duhks aren't better known, because their music = amazing.

02. The Weepies - Happiness
friday 13, lights go red, green, in a coffeeshop
I've been listening to this song a lot on my way home from work lately. I can't help but sing along and dance a little (only if I'm alone at the bus stop!), and I'm obsessed with the beginning of the song... I always have to listen to it at least three times before I can listen to the whole thing all the way through ;)

03. Ellie Lawson - Gotta Get Up From Here
black hood on and I'm heading out the door, headphones on and my beats up loud
I can't remember where I originally got this song, but I hated it at first! It slowly grew on me, though, and now I love it. It's got a nice, steady beat. And the pessimistic lyrics (in the beginning) contrast nicely with the happy tune. I like that.

04. Amiina - Ammælis
///////////////
The old-school computer vibe of this song is just amazing! And kinda hypnotizing...

05. Lene Marlin - Unforgivable Sinner
'cause between this world and eternity, there is a face you hope to see
When I was 14, I used to listen to Lene Marlin while I vacuumed. Ten years later, I'm still listening to her debut album (and not only when I'm cleaning!)... I think that says a lot about the quality of her music. It's pure pop - but it's good pop!

06. Michelle Branch - Breathe
'cause I don't wanna waste another moment, saying things we never meant to say
This song reminds me of summer. And I like that. (This is also a song that makes me want to sing along as loudly as I can... usually at the bus stop. I'm sure I've scared some little kids.)

07. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On
I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous
Every time I hear this song I want to cry. Well, every time I hear Neko Case's voice I want to cry. But this song is so, so sad.

08. K's Choice - The Ballad of Lea and Paul
so it's better, maybe wiser, to leave the rest unsaid
I don't even like K's Choice. But I think this song is pretty. And I like the lyrics, even though I've no idea what the song is actually about...

09. Missy Higgins - Ten Days
so we've put an end to it this time - I'm not longer yours and you're no longer mine
I've only heard a handful of Missy Higgins songs, over a very long period of time, but I like all of the songs I've heard. This one makes me want to cry... so pretty (I think generally, I like songs that make me cry?)

10. Patty Griffin - Mary
every time the snow drifts, everywhere the sand shifts
Patty Griffin's voice is just beautiful. I love how in this song, all of the instruments are barely noticable, the whole song pretty much relies on the singing. Beautifully sad! But it makes me feel weirdly happy inside, for some reason?

11. Dar Williams - Iowa (Traveling III)
and we walk in the world of safe people, and at night we walk into our houses and burn
This is my new favorite song. Okay, so I have a lot of favorites, but this really is an amazing song. One day, I'm going to learn how to play it on the guitar. And then I'll make all of you listen to it. And it'll be amazing. But nowhere near as amazing as Dar Williams.

12. Lily Allen - Not Big
yeah let's rewind, let's turn back the time, to when you couldn't get it up
Sooo... I'm pretty much in love with this girl. Her CD is amazing! I can't remember another CD I liked every single song on right away. Fun music, and great to sing along to! AND her voice isn't annoying, which is what I've been running into with other "fun pop" girl artists (The Pipettes, for example - I love their songs, but I can only stand about two verses and a chorus before my ears give up).
