So, at Vesturhlíð we run clubs in the afternoons twice a week - each club runs for two weeks, so it's four times total. We usually offer three clubs each time, and the kids get to pick a new one every two weeks. In the past we've had a cooking club, a book club, a language club, an arts & crafts club, a sports club, a magic tricks club... pretty much any theme goes. Today, we started a new batch of clubs - we're running car, sign language and science clubs for the next two weeks. Being a science geek, I'm obviously running the science club, and our first session went exceptionally well! We made some non-newtonian slime in crazy green and yellow colours... it was fabulous! A couple of the kids got really into it, punching it, throwing it around, playing slimy monsters, and just "stirring" it. A few of them did NOT like it, though... one boy quickly left the room after his slime was ready and said it was disgusting, and he did NOT want to play with it, and one of the girls tasted a bit of it, but whenever I tried to get her to hold it she looked at me and made her "are you kidding me?" face. It was tons of fun - although the clean-up kinda sucked, and I feel like everything tastes like cornstarch.
We've got some crazy balloon action going on later this week... plus some amazing vinegar & baking soda rockets to launch next week!
