Theo Berrigan is seven years old when Diana finds him trying to get into some password protected files on her laptop.
“Hey. What are you doing here?”
Theo jerks and then gives her a guilty look. “Errr, I thought…. I was looking for aliens…”
“You were what now?”
“Well, you work at the FBI, so I thought…”
Diana listens in disbelief as her son explains about secrets, conspiracies and The Man.
“Will you get me an alien picture, mom?” asks Theo earnestly.
“Did Mozzie put you up to this?” She’s going to kill him. Scratch that, she’ll arrest him, put all his characteristics into the system and then kill him painfully for corrupting her kid. They had a deal-
“No, just… we never celebrate Uncle Mozzie’s birthday.”
Diana pauses at that.
Thinking about Theo’s birthday last week, she begins to see where this came from. However, there are still too many pieces missing.
“Theo, why did you go looking through my computer?”
“Because it’s not fair,” says her son in determination. “Mr. Peter said that Mozzie doesn’t have a birthday, but everyone should have a birthday. I asked Mr. Neal and Mrs. Sara said that he would probably like the Kennedy association report or some alien pictures-”
“Assassination, not association,” corrects Diana absentmindedly.
“- can we get him one?”
She is going to throttle Sara and Caffrey. She’s going to hunt them down, and then -
They make Mozzie a lactose-free cheesecake, and as the family meets to celebrate, Diana sees Mozzie’s eyes glitter even as he sets up the Parcheesi board for himself and Theo. Afterwards, when Theo animatedly retells a story from school that week, Mozzie sneaks her a questioning look, wondering whether he’s been forgiven for the conspiracies theory fiasco.
Diana smiles.
