How Do You Un-Call 911?

Well, I called the cops on my new neighbors about an hour ago.  There was a woman screaming, "let go of me" and a man shouting and then more shouting and I called 911.  Lysy said that she saw a man holding his hand over a womans mouth, and claiming she was drunk.  After getting off the phone, I got a flashlight and went out to the end of my driveway, because I live on a dark rural road in the woods with no street lights.  I figured flagging down the police would help matters.

Have I mentioned that I now live in the back end of beyond?  When I used to call the cops back in Portland, they'd be there in under 4 minutes.

So, I stood at the end of my driveway and listened to the ebb and flow of the fight, and wondered who was drunk or insane or what.  The fight began to wind down.  But, I had called 911.  How do you un-call 911?  Eventually, the woman came down the driveway on foot.  I tried to get her to sit on my porch steps or come inside the house to wait for the police.  She was panicky, and making noises about how he was going to hurt her and that she couldn't be the one to have called the police and she had to get to town.  Not wildly rational, it seemed to me.  Town is a mile down the road, down the self same dark rural road with no street lights (or SIDEWALKS!).  Idiots speed down this road constantly.  I couldn't talk her out of leaving, so I gave her my flashlight.  I went back inside, got another flashlight and went outside to find the cops arriving, about 15 or 20 minutes after my phone call.  I spoke to the police, told them what I knew and to come talk to me if they needed to and came back inside.

So, now we know the response time on a summer Saturday night.  I think we're lucky that this above mentioned town, one mile down the road, has a fire station in it, so I hope that fire response might be quicker.

Does anyone here think I'll ever see my good flashlight again?
