This week - The Edgars!

Apr 22, 2012 07:40

It's Edgars week. This means that the Mystery Writers Association is holding their annual symposium in New York City. I'm going to be on a panel with Tom Angleberger, Matthew Kirby, Maureen Johnson, and Todd Strausser, about MG/YA mystery novels. I think it should be fun, though I've never been on a panel before. I'm not sure how I should prepare for it, if I should have anything ready to say, or what. Jon Gibbs did a post just about this topic, which was perfect for me.

The Awards banquet is also this week, on Thursday night. Men have been instructed to wear black tie, and women, a "little, black dress." My dress is black, but it's not little. It's long, and it's beautiful. Hopefully I won't be overdressed, though I have to say I don't care all that much if I am because I'm so excited to wear this dress. If I can, I will model it for you on the blog some time this week, and I will definitely post a picture of me all dressed up.

The banquet runs a couple of hours -- it starts with a private reception for the nominees, followed by dinner, during which time they announce the winners for each category.

My 9 year-old unfortunately has an orchestra concert scheduled for the very same evening, so neither myself or my husband can attend. Another family relative will be taking her. My mommy guilt rose high (so far I've attended every single performance of hers) but I'm glad someone else will be there with her, and I've promised we will text them the results when we find out.

Though really, it doesn't matter who does win. I'm so happy to be part of the whole experience, and I imagine most of the people there feel the same way. I have always wanted to dress up for something special, as silly as that sounds, and it's thrilling to have an opportunity to do that. There are so few occasions in children's publishing to get decked up, I think we should just jump on the chance when we can. But that's me. :)
