The Commencement of 23

There is perhaps nothing nicer than being awakened on one's birthday to the squeals of a friend who has just looked out the cabin loft's window and discovered that there is snow on the ground. Especially if that is followed by three sleepyhead girls almost banging their heads together to get close enough to the window to see. Most of what Ashley, Hannah and I said on that particular morning wasn't intelligible, but it reeked of pure joy. I can think of no better way to start a day.

The whole weekend was lovely, actually. The Fiestapalooza of Cabins was fun and crazy as always. I got to spend some quality prayer partner time with Kristen, which was fabulous. I got several nice presents from various people, including a massive cake from the lot of them on Saturday evening. There were the usual enjoyments in the form of the interview game, frolicking by the lake, and singing to Jesus. ("Desus said to me, he said, "Cwithy, dem sheperds sing pwetty!") I didn't have to kill anyone or put anyone in time out, either. Gah, I love chaperoning! I'm totally looking forward to the insane picture exchange which will, no doubt, take place soon.

After a lengthy nap yesterday afternoon, my parents took me out to Joe's Italian Village for dinner. I consumed mass amounts of spaghetti marinara with mushrooms and shrimp. Yes, friends, mass amounts. And it was loverly. They got me a George Foreman Grill and toaster and a coffee maker for my future apartment. All in all, it was a splendiferous birthday, even if two of my best friends and my grandfather failed to acknowledge me, and something was definitely screwy with my parents last night. Still, one of the best I've had in a while.
