Ohhhhh It was the work week from... heck! (Yeah, that's the word!!) We have a supervisor every night, and really we can get by without them, so when one went on vacation, and the other couldn't cover, it was no biggie. We had another Cashier who used to be a supervisor who stepped in for two of the four days, and the other two we had two cashiers to cover. Again, no biggie. We can handle it! Last night (one of the supervisorless nights) I went in and noticed something right off the bat. Where is the other Cashier? I start looking around, but figure she has already gone out to the meeting. I get to the meeting, and she isn't there, so I motion to her boyfriend, and mouth "Where is she?" and he mimes throwing up. S&*#@)#(&!!! I said right then and there...and a bit to loudly I might add "I am totally screwed!" I mean, yeah, we are cashiers, but we also have to seperate all the new items coming in each night into departments and take them out to them. Clean all the registers and pick up trash and hangers. Pull everything forward on the register aisle shelves, and wait on customers throughout. I was screwed!!

Once I get into a situation I am fine, but beforehand I tend to panic a bit. Actually a lot. I was so stressed out the first half hour I was fighting back tears because I had no idea how I was going to do this. I didn't even know if I was going to get a break, which wouldn't work since 6 hours on the register and it locks me out until I have been clocked out for an hour.

I chased after the asst. manager after the meeting...he wasn't getting away from me! I asked him what he wanted me to do he said "Well just call me 'if' you need help." IF?!?! I about laughed! I found someone else who knew how to run a register though and set it up with him to come and cover me for my breaks. I didn't get the freight done until 4:30...we usually have that done around 2 at the latest, but we have been as late as 6, so I think I did pretty good considering I was alone.

I didn't get the cleaning done, but I did get the garbage dumped. Didn't get the zoning (pulling things forward on the shelves), or most of it done anyway, but I did go over the big, more noticable places.

After all was said and done, we had a big storm during the night...who knew? I was too busy, I had no idea. The next supervisor to come in at 6:45 called in to say that she was going to be late. I thought I was going to have to stay. Since my day is winding down and the hurry hurry part of the night is over, stress is starting to wind it's way back into my thinking and I almost broke down again cuz I want out, and I want out now! Luckily, another one was scheduled, and I took all the stuff to the back that I couldn't before, because I couldn't leave the front, and I clocked out!

As soon as my badge was swiped, my legs almost gave out on me, I was literally that tired. I think I was going on pure adrenaline all night..I have never moved that fast in my life. I usually come home and go to bed about 6 hours later...I came home and was asleep an hour later. LOL I realized how truly incredible it made me feel though... it showed me I could run the whole front end of a store that big and be able to do it alone! Sure I didn't get everything done, but I was able to do it all alone for the most part. And being able to find out something like that about yourself is priceless!

I have found out after this stressful night that Avril Lavigne is my stress music of choice though. This from an almost pure country girl! She has some good music though, and it helps relieve stress when you scream along with her. lol

Ohh I am still groggy though..I am gonna go veg in front of the TV for a while. Thank goodness I am off for two days now. I hope that the woman that goes in tonight isn't alone too. The same person who called in last night is supposed to be with her, but if she is still sick... but at least they won't have freight..we have inventory right now, and we don't have any trucks tonight because of it. Wish I had been that lucky!
