Well, to update, I wound up not going to San Diego on the 19th as previously posted. I did however wind up going to North Carolina for two weeks. Starting today. A little resort town called Kill Devil Hills, which is actually existing on a little peninsula on the ocean. Seriously, you can practically see water on both sides, it is so thin.
That is slightly exaggerated, but given the highly claustrophobic nature of the condominiums, restaurants, and roads, you do walk away with the impression. The hotel I'm working at is actually right on the dunes with a great view of the ocean. It does however have the musty smell of Grandma and Grandpa's place up north when they weren't living in it most of the year. Slightly comforting, slightly not. Granted, the place is largely seasonal, and this is the off-season.
Oh yeah, and Kill Devil Hills apparently is named after a brand of rum that washed ashore in the area during colonial times ("Kill Devil Rum". You'd think it'd still be around with a name like that). This is the generally accepted idea, but I am looking forward to seeing if there's more to the name than that.
*Updated hours later*
Just got back from an AWESOME restaurant called Kelly's, which doesn't sound like much, but Got. Damn. The atmosphere of the place was excellent, having a dining room that's about as elegant as they come (with an amazing seafood menu), and then connecting to it is a bar with a huge music venue/dancefloor and a great setup to enjoy stage bands from a seated position. Great layout, wish I remembered my camera for it.
I've come to the realization that North Carolinans(?) are the bee's knees. Our waitress at the restaurant, rather than bus our food with a scowl like most would, actually would not take my shrimp platter away until I had pecked at it a little more. Freakin' adorable.
That's about it for now. Get the hell outta my office! *blam! blam!*
