So, I had my six week review at the gym last night. The main change to my routine is that the trainer's advised me to move away from the ab cruncher and shown me some more advanced abs stuff to do instead, mostly involving the fit ball. She's also told me to do less on the bikes for the sake of my poor knees, which have been suffering lately and causing me to reduce my cycling time, and to concentrate more on the rower for my cardio.
At her suggestion I've joined the 'gym challenge', which means my name's up on a board on the wall and you put up your best time for certain distances on machines. She recommended I try out the rowing challenge of 2km (twice as far as I normally do) so I think that's going to be my main cardio for now. Oh, and when she put my name up she pointed out that I'm actually the first person who isn't a member of staff to take up the challenge and get my name up there.
I managed my 2km on the rower, but it was completely knackering - did it in 10.44, though, which isn't bad considering my best time for 1km is 5.02. I could cheat and make my best time on the wall lower by reducing the resistance (I use a resistance of 6), but where would the challenge be then? I mean, someone was on the wall with a time of something like 4.25 for the 1km row, but for all I know she was on resistance 1 - I could make that sort of time with no resistance, I'm sure.
Anyway, gym is generally going well. I have muscletone for the first time in years - seriously, I have biceps worthy of the name again, and all the cycling has done wonders for the area where my legs meet my back.
Ooh, and on an unrelated note, other than the fact that the gym costs money and I need more of it, I applied for a job yesterday. There are several more I'm going for in the next month, but fingers crossed on this one.
