I have a passing interest in baseball (mostly because I can understand the rules, unlike with football or basketball!). So, of course, I'm following the Phillies now.
We watched last night's game. Anyone ever notice how much baseball players spit? Seriously, it's like they can't make a move without puntuating it with a glob of saliva. Swing and miss - then spit. Catch the ball - then spit. Adjust crotch - then spit. It's like a spitapalooza.
I'd guess that the majority of the spitting happens by home plate, since everyone seems to feel the need to hock one up between every swing of the bat. Therefore, who in their right mind would want to slide into homeplate with that all over the ground?
Watch tonight's game and tell me if you don't notice this.
PS - One guy on the Tampa team, BJ Upton, I think is his name, I have dubbed Spitty McSpitterson. He spits like 3 times in a row at a shot. Watch, you'll see what I'm talking about.
Ew.
