So, Steve's been in Boston for almost a week and a half and I'm really starting to get sick of people asking me if I'm okay. He's only going to be gone for two and a half weeks! While I do miss him, I'm not lonely and I'm actually really enjoying the peace. And the opportunity to play my music really loudly without getting whinged at *grin*.

Seriously, I've always been someone who is perfectly happy spending time on my own. Not all the time, obviously, but two and a half weeks isn't long and I don't need to be constantly entertained. And it's not as though I've been sitting at home all the time either.

The first weekend, Mum and I took the girls to see The Government Inspector. It was a thoroughly enjoyable show, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. I couldn't pinpoint it at first, because it was a hilariously funny comedy, adapted brilliantly for two actors.

Finally, I realised that it was the emotional connection that I was missing. This was farce, slapstick stuff, you didn't care about the characters in front of you, they were only there to make you laugh. And there's nothing at all wrong with that! But I think I've just been so spoiled by the amazingly intense theatre I've seen lately, that I've come to crave it. At least, once I realised what was wrong, it ceased to niggle at me and I loved the rest of the show.

The girls loved it too, which was great. This was their first exposure to 'regular' theatre. Something that wasn't a musical, which is easy to follow, or Shakespeare, which they don't actually expect to understand. So I was curious as to how they would go. They laughed all the way through, and didn't have any problems following the plot, so that bodes well for next year (they're both coming to see a couple of plays at the Belvoir with me).

And while I'm not usually one to comment much on stagecraft, I have to say that the set was incredible. The whole thing took place inside a giant cardboard box, which they occasionally closed up, and then re-opened with a different interior. Very effective.

After that, the girls and Mum came back to my place and we had a taco and DVD night, wherein I introduced them to Heroes. 'Twas a great success. Liz slept over, and the next day Trish came back up and we worked on Nan's Christmas present (family photo scrapbook).

As for the weekend just gone, Trish and I hit Parramatta for a shopping spree. We were planning on getting her lingerie for her formal, and I wanted to get a book (and one for her as well). We came home with her lingerie, three new bras for me, two tops and a pair of pants for me, three DVDs and six books (split between us). Add to that the Montezuma's we had for lunch, and the fancy ice cream afterwards, and that was a helluva day! *grin*

I could'n't resist the books though. Many, many moons ago (we're talking around ten years) I found a science fiction and fantasy bookshop in Parramatta. It was right when I first discovered Star Trek books (and back when I thought Trek was the only sci-fi worth reading, ahh my innocence) so that worked quite well. I used to take myself off to Parramatta every couple of weekends. For one reason or another I stopped going, and when I went back a couple of years later it was gone.

Well, I found it again! It had moved into a little arcade, and merged with another shop. So I was VERY happy. And even more so when I met the shopgirl there, who reads a lot of the same stuff I do, as well as being able to recommend heaps more, and also found heaps of stuff that Trish would like to read.

Mind you, I did have a little hysterical giggle at one point (which she joined in on once she understood). I was looking at the Trek books, and by extension the Stargate books, and she said "Yeah, I used to read them, but I found them limiting and moved on to fanfiction. You probably haven't heard of that, though."

Oh yes, hysterical giggling...

Nick and Adam came round for dinner/DVD night on Saturday, which was fun. I made chocolate chicken, which I can't usually make 'cause Steve doesn't like it. And Nicky found yet another wine I like. We're up to three now! This one is probably my favourite though. I've had to keep the bottle, because I haven't written down what it is yet.

Irene came round on Sunday to mow my lawn, and while she was there Andrew and Stacey showed up for a surprise visit. They (Andrew and Stacey) ended up staying for dinner, which was nice but it meant another late night so I'm very very tired today.

And I'm obviously not lacking for entertainment while Steve's away!

And I have my ticket for Vienna Woods on 3 December! Nick and Adam can't make it, so it's just me. And I got row C, so I'm happy with that. And muchly excited!

I've also managed to convince Ronnie to subscribe to Bell Shakespeare with me next year. See, I'm spreading my obsession around! So much easier than Nicky, too. :-P He just told me to book when I wanted, and he'd be there.

Wow, this entry is somewhat longer than anticipated, and it hasn't even been six months since my last update!
