I have been on fire! Since Saturday, I have fired 2 glaze firing and one bisque firing. The last glaze firing is cooling now and I'll unload it tomorrow. May actually load another bisque firing on Friday or Saturday.
Today, while the kiln was firing, I made bowls, plates and trays out of slabs of clay. I'm also working on some candle-holders made out of clay leaves and bark. Not sure it I'll work all the bugs out in time for the show, but things are looking good so far.
It feels good to know that I can work this hard and be this productive. Makes me thing that if I can get into enough good shows, I can actually make a living out of this. I've had some doubts on and off this year.
Tomorrow Hallie (Alex's friend and my new helper) will come and we'll hopefully put the booth display together and figure out how it all gets set up.
Note to self and any other potter out there reading this:
Yellow Crystal Matte From a Tom Coleman article in CM) is an amazing looking glaze, bright yellow with a sugary/crystal finish, but it can't go on any vertical surface. It ran two inches on the test piece, then ran off the scrap of clay under the piece that was there to catch any runs, then ran off the edge of the shelf and dripped onto the shelf below.
Here's a pic of one of the tests that just ran onto the scrap and not the shelf. Only the top 1/4 was glazed. Runny bastard! it's an amazing glaze trailed on top of other glazes, though.
