Is hunger the best spice?

There's a chinese restaurant in Birdsboro PA called Panda Heaven that might, just might be the best chinese restaurant that I've ever been to.  I'm not sure.  The reason I'm not sure is that I've never been there when I wasn't starving.  I'd go with a bunch of friends after a busy day and it would invariably take too long to order.  Getting consensus with my friends is like trying to herd cats.  Lots of them.  By the time the food arrived, I'd be so hungry I was chewing on the arm next to me (FYI:  None of that group of  friends taste all that good.)

What brought that to mind is the chicken soup I made yesterday.  I haven't really cooked much (really cooked) in a while.  I'm trying to get back into it and making soup seemed like the perfect thing.  I'm recovering from the flu and chicken noodle soup really is one of those comfort foods for me when I'm ill.  What can I say, I'm predictable.

That soup was delicious.  Maybe it's because I haven't made soup in so long; maybe it's the herb mix I made and rubbed under the skin before roasting; maybe it's the fresh mushrooms I tossed in right before eating so they'd slowly soften but still have some bite.  All of that plays a part, I'm sure, but I have to wonder if it was just a good dish that was spiced to perfection by hunger.

I'd like to go back and try that restaurant when I wasn't starving.  As for the soup, I bought another chicken to roast and am gonna make more broth tomorrow.  We'll see.
