Turtle Cake and Beach themed cupcakes

Feb 22, 2016 14:10

I am posting this here just for Therin, but anyone can enjoy or comment. ^-^ These are the cupcakes and the cake that I was busy this weekend working on. The cupcake decorations were made this past Monday evening, the cupcakes and frosting were made and decorated on Friday, the cake was made starting Sat about 1 pm and finished on Sun 2 am. It is all worth it... I was soooooo worried that the turtle would turn out horrible
.

Okay, I am going to include the cake in stages from the crumbcoat (the one in white) - which was too thick - to the end. I didn't want a picture of it before the crumbcoat, though My Love wanted to take one. He is the one who drew the fins and helped to shape the head. See, the bottom of the cake - the fins and the part under the shell -  are two chocolate jelly roll sponge cakes and the shell as well as about 1/2-3/4 of the head is a devil's food cake made in an American Football cake pan. I trimed on end off to make the shell and used the trimmings to help form the head.  My Love is also the one who drew the green lines to help me out as well as sketching the mouth on it. The blue was an attempt to make the board look like something... I wanted to cut it to go along with the angle of the fins, but My Love didn't want to attempt it with the cake on there, and there was no way we were going to move it. Nope, none. So, it was decided to use the last of the blue from the cupcakes, which I had already put around the edges of the turtle to dress up the board. I think it turned out okay. Just so you know, it is supposed to be a loggerhead turtle.  You also get a peak at my kitchen-dinning room. That jar there behind the turtle? It was my tea cup for the evening. Yes, It is a quart mason jar - it can handle the volume needed and the heat.
