This was wonderful. I love how very realistic and not over the top it is. No big declarations, no cliched magical skills, just the actual characters interacting in a believable way.

Thanks! 'Believable' is one of the greatest compliments in fanfic! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I really wanted this story to be sort of quiet and touching, and more about him than about them, you know?

I totally do. So often I feel like the characters get sacrificed to the plotline (or the author's wish fulfillment) in fic... and this... it didn't feel like that at all.

Thanks! I've certainly done my share of 'wish-fulfillment' fic, but every once in a while I'm inclined to just do something in the realm of friend!fic.
