As we draw near to the year 2007, I wonder whether or not we realize where we are going.
When the Internet gives us instantaneous access to essentially all information, we revel in our own power. But with what trade-off? We're replacing the world with a virtual one. Where symbols are more important than what they symbolize. We expand further and further away from the core and into an infinite abstraction.
Postmodernism ruled by glitch and Nietzsche has chopped up dogmatism in favor of a boundless, unguided freedom. We look down at our roots with aphoristic, ironic grins, holding close to subject over object and it's inherent paradox.
Hammered in by 20th century physics, uncertainty has revealed itself as master, accelerating into a time of feverish dispersion and cross-fertilization.
It seems that art is better than the truth, and experience and relativism have taken their rightful thrones.
