I will write something real soon, but first I have to talk about the WearWolves section in the RedEye and how they are the WORST arbiters of taste ever. Trashing a girl's outfit because she's wearing silver shoes and a blue top? The woman who always offers that criticism still complains when women don't match their handbags and shoes. Apparently this woman was born in 1910. She also trashed some girl's all-black outfit for having 3 shades of black. And not because they were old, faded clothes, they just happened to be 3 shades of darkness on seemingly brand-new and crisp clothes. Another indicated that a girl was too big to be wearing certain jeans that honestly looked fine, but she was photographed at a weird angle. And the guy commentators just make cat-call-ish one-liners.

Yet another indication that mainstream Chicago fashion is boring and behind by light-years. I'm not saying I'm some sort of style expert but...shit.

Oh, also, Chicago hipster kids dress like their outfits are like ridiculous costumes with too many accoutrements/trinkets/been-there-done-that asymetrical haircuts/hippie headbands, whereas NY hipster kids wear their hipster outfits and they just look like they're displaying their actual personal style. There's a strange, kind of understated show-offiness to their look that doesn't irritate me (on the street. Party photo sites? Whole other story), whereas Chicago kids who dress like that just seem obnoxious and clueless, trying too hard. Just personal observation, of course. I can't believe I'm kind of sticking up for NY hipster kids.
