They sat on the balcony of the rented house, watching the sunset, which would seem like a daft fucking thing to do anywhere else, but there it made sense, the skies changing colors over the Mediterranean as the girls played with Julian in the pool below.
“What d’you reckon?” John asked, strumming a G-minor and letting it fade before he went on. “We could get one of those little islands out here and build us a house and a nice recording studio and there’d be no one to bother us.”
Paul leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he took a drag from his cigarette. He turned from the water with a soft grin on his face and said, “That’d be all right, wouldn’t it.”
John felt himself start to smile as he thought of all the quiet and sunsets and songs they could have in a place like this. He slid his fingers down the frets and listened to the soft whine his callused fingers made on the strings.
“Yeah, it would.”
