Unpopular on Popular

I'm making my own meme!

Or, well, not really, but this is what I feel like writing about:

Unpopular on Popular (or, things people really like that I just don't get)

Spock/Uhara

I just am not big on this pairing. A lot of people who like Sheldon/Penny were crazy into this, but I just wasn't enchanted by them. In fact, even more so now that I've watch Star Trek: TOS.

Maybe it's because I like Kirk/Spock, or maybe it's because I don't care for Zoe Saldana (next note), but, for whatever reason, I was more annoyed by this pairing than ooo'ing and aww'ing over it. Frankly, I hope they're not together in the next one.

Zoe Saldana/Sam Worthington/Megan Fox

I don't think any of these people can act. Zoe is probably the best out of the three, but now that I've watched Star Trek: TOS, I think Nichelle Nichols is waaaay more badass as Uhara. Zoe is pretty, but past that, she has yet to impress me.

Sam Worthington - why is he every where now? It's like the Shia Labeouf thing, but maybe Sam's makes a bit more sense since he's built? Whatever, I don't think he's attractive - but then, my attraction to famous people is severely strange and not quite the norm - regardless, I don't think he's an example of an excellent young actor.

Now, some might say, but you like Zac Efron - yeah, I do, he's pretty and androgynous and that is what I find bizarrely attractive, but I'll be the first to tell you he can't act his way out of paper bag, so the point is moot - hmm, maybe there is where I can find my understanding as far as Sam is concerned?

Megan Fox's popularity is kind of dying anyway - and I DID rather enjoy the extremely femslashy moments between her and Amanda Seyfried in 'Jennifer's Body' - I won't lie about that.

But she said in an interview in Entertainment Weekly that 'Transformers' was not about acting and while I agree, as an actress, I don't think you should say that - I mean, that basically reads to me as, 'I know I can't act, but I'm an actress and it's okay', which, there are just so many things wrong there...

Rilo Kiley/Feist

This is really sort of pointless - because everyone has their own music taste and I don't normally like to get into it musically because, growing up, my sister always gave me s*it about what I listened to, but, while I can recognize that both of these artists are good and talented, I just don't care for their music and people always look at me like I have two-heads when I say that.

Maybe it's because my music taste runs close to them, but I am not in love with them? Each of them may have one song apiece I like, but overall, I just don't get it.

Politics

This is probably the only time I'll bring this up. Why? Because political discussions = fights. ALWAYS. And it's pretty pointless at the end of the day.

'But you should care about what goes on in the world!' Yeah, sure, but I have always been honest about the fact that, at the end of the day, I'm a bit selfish and self-centered and I just can't get up the strength to worry about this sort of stuff.

Not to mention it's all carousel to me. No one ever wins - everyone just gets upset, round and round we go. Religion is the same deal. And sex a bit, though people have (thankfully) really sort of relaxed on this. I've adopted the philosophy of 'leave me alone, and I'll give you the same courteousy'.

So, unless some crazy democrat/republican/methodist/all-party-religionacon comes into my house and starts hitting me with a wiffle bat, I'm just going to stay where I am.

Is that burying my head in the sand? Probably. But I also admit to being pretty ineffectual when it comes to any sort of debate - so I'm just going to stay out of the way before I put my foot in my mouth - unless you consider this whole thing a foot-in-the-mouth scenario in which case, 'mmmm, sandals...'

Family Guy/Simpsons

I was one of those who really wanted 'Family Guy' to come back after it got cancelled and now I'm one of those who just wants it to go away. I personally don't think it's all that funny anymore and now it is just going out of its' way to shock people.

On the reverse end, I started watching the 'Simpsons' in MIDDLE SCHOOL - it was funny to watch growing up but, now, well. I've grown up. And it's still ON. Some times, we just need to let go. Especially when something that's supposed to be funny can not only not coax a chuckle from me, but makes me feel kind of sad for it.

Children/Babies

They terrify me. No. Really. I have nightmares about being pregnant. I truly do not care for children. They're small and frightening. They're crazy people we let roam the streets. Crazy people scream and cry and wet themselves. Children scream and cry and wet themselves. What, so we excuse children 'cause they're young? That's ageism!

Okay, so, some of this is just me joking, but I really am kind of frightened of children. I'm that person - the one who won't hold the baby and who rolls their eyes when kids shriek in theaters/groceries/anywhere. I just...I'm sure there is a phobia name for it...

Crocs

I think they're very unattractive as far as footwear goes. Flip flops/sandals I get, but crocs...do not get...

Transformers/Avatar

As someone who enjoys good writing, I weep at these films. They're not well written. Their characters are not likeable.

Now, out of the two, I'd say 'Avatar' is a bit of a step above 'Transformers'. At least in 'Avatar' I could follow what was happening (even if I found it tedious) and I didn't want every single character to DIAF, but considering Cameron wrote 'Terminator', which was original, and this, which is a strange carbon-copy mix of 'Ferngully' and 'Dances with Wolves', I still am not impressed.

And yet they both made mad money, while well-written thought provoking films with mixes of great effects and excellent acting ('Moon' with Sam Rockwell, 'Coraline', 'Serenity') continue to get ignored. Its' maddening to me.

Twilight

This sort of connects with the one above it. I read the novels and I still sort of like the first one, though I can't point my finger to why.

Actually, I've often joked that considering how many people I have heard say 'I read the novels, but I hate them/the films' that Stephanie Meyer, in fact, sold her soul to the devil with the cravat that women (because usually it's women) would be irresistibly drawn to read the books, even if they don't like them and, some of them (like me) would like the first one, but be unable to tell you exactly why.

Jokes aside, I think the main reason I liked the first one is simple. Bella is so blank in the first one, you could easily imagine yourself in her shoes. And, hey, I'll admit it - it wouldn't be awful to have some guy think you're the greatest thing since the invention of fire.

That said - it would be awful if that guy was sparkly and sort of obsessed with you, following you around and watching you sleep and such.

Twilight and its' like/dislike thing has been pretty much beaten to death, so I won't go much farther other than to say that, over all, I do not care for it.

True Blood

I'll close with this. It's not that I don't like vampires - I DO. I just wrote a BBT fic that was Sheldon/Penny fighting vamps and I liked Buffy and what-have-you.

But, I've tried to watch this show twice now and I just don't get it. I'm not into it. Maybe it's the porno sex or the fact I just don't really care for Sookie, but, in the end - not for me!

If you read this whole thing - yay! If not, I don't really blame you. It's long and ranty. And hey, if you have things you don't like, you should share it in your journal.
