Most of my flist did this, so here are my responses to questions from
renisanz,
ishie,
dashakay renisanz's questions
1. What comics are you currently reading and what is your favorite?
Prepare for ranting!
My favorite is indeed Power Girl *points to icon*!
Power Girl is a greatly misunderstood character - I should know, because I too, at one point looked at her with the big breasts and little waist and shook my head, thinking it was just another classic example of male misogyny/sexism in comics. But my husband was actually the one to convert me to the fact that she's actually a pretty strong female character (well, him and a little comic writer named Geoff Johns).
Power Girl is actually a feminist and yes, she has large breasts, but hey - so do lots of girls -
and at least she acknowledges it. And not just there, in Justice League Europe #37 she says this in regards to her costume: "shows what I am: female, healthy. If men want to degrade themselves by staring, that's their problem, I'm not going to apologize for it." and, in JSA: Classified #2, she reveals to Superman: "the first time I made this costume, I wanted to have a symbol, like you. I just…I couldn’t think of anything. I thought eventually, I’d figure it out. And close the hole. But I haven’t."
Essentially she's Supergirl from another universe who grew into a woman and, in fact, threw off the 'Super' label to her name because she wanted to stand apart from Superman - stand on her own as an individual - I've actually always wanted to write up an essay explaining in great detail (and with MORE citations to source material), why she is, in fact, a wonderful female rolemodel.
Past that, I'm reading Supergirl, X-Factor, Buffy, Green Lantern and anything Geoff Johns touches. I've also dusted off my Crossgen comics collection, and have been flipping through Meridian and Mystic.
2. Team Kripke or Team Winkle?
Probably Team Kripke, though I really like both characters.
3. What's your favorite fic that you're written so far, or the one that you're most proud of?
God, I really hate all of my work - no, really. I almost never go back and read anything and when I do, I cringe and think I could have done better. Even on the fics I've had beta'd, I still just do not really like what I put out - it always seems blatantly cheesy or mediocre or just awful. And this is not me looking for compliments - this is just me being upfront - I feel like I could do better, but for whatever reason I just can't. It's like always having something on the tip of your tongue - its maddening!
But, if forced, I'd say,
In Our Bedroom After the War wasn't too awful - I still think I'd like to change what I actually did with the prompt, but it was fun writing apoca!fic. And, in another direction, I was pretty happy with how the scene in
Part 3 of my FOTC Redlight epic turned out, because I felt I actually nailed the band meeting scene.
4. If it's not too personal, how did you meet your husband?
I actually met him through a friend who was working for him at Gamestop. I needed some holiday cash and they were hiring (he was/still is the store manager), so I got hired as a temp. He was reeeeally into me and I was all 'EW! Who is this old man?!' (He's 13 years older than me). But, his charms won me over - not your classic love story, since I was totally not into him at first - I mean, AT ALL - but it worked out. XD
5. What is your favorite childhood film?
CARE BEARS: THE MOVIE!!! ishie's questions
1. What was your first fandom?
Buffy was the first thing to draw me into reading fan fiction - but as far as hardcore participation goes, FOTC.
2. Favorite comic?
Answered above for
renisanz, but current fave is Power Girl!
3. You have the power to commission new programs for a television network. What is your ideal new show?
Oh man - hard question! I hate all my original ideas almost more than my fan fic, probably more so (which is why none of my original ideas get written - lol). While I can't hammer anything really clear out, I would say I'd love a REAL mystery show - NOT horror. NOT suspense. MYSTERY. Like Sherlock Holmes meets Columbo or something. You know, a real, 'And Then There Were None', 1920s palor sort of deal. Maybe set it lake/sea side. Twin Peaks-ish. And the viewer could actually follow along and make good, educated guesses - so not like 'Harper's Island', which ended up being more teen slasher flick than anything.
4. Dinner party time! You can invite any five people from all of history (fictional and non) - who are they and what are you serving?
This was the hardest question EVER...and I'm still not entirely satisfied with my choices...still...oh, and this is a simple ol' soup & salad affair...
1. The Doctor (preferably Ten) - and I'd beg him to take me away with him...
2. Grace Kelly - the most beautiful woman who ever lived - hands down...
3. David Bowie - um...it's Bowie.
4. Phoenix (Jean Grey) - favorite comic character of all time - oh, I love Power Girl, but Jean was my first favorite - actually, I want to be her more than have her over...
5. Aloysius Pendergast (from my favorite novel, 'Relic') - because he's such an amazing character and for some god-forsaken-reason not only did they ruin the book-to-film version of 'Relic' but they didn't even put him - the most popular character in the whole friggin' novel - in it!
5. Would you rather live somewhere that had harsh winters or blazing summers for 10 months out of the year?
Summer - always summer.
dashakay's questions
1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close are you to that now?
God - I wanted to be like twelve million things - most notably singer/actress, which I am no where close to - lol - but I wouldn't want to be those anymore anyway.
2. I saw that you just celebrated the one year anniversary of your marriage. How was the first year? Did it differ at all from your expectations?
No - nothing has changed for me, really. Steve and I dating is the same as Steve and I married - if you ever really want to get an idea of what we are like as a couple watch HIMYM - we ARE Marshall/Lily - seriously, I wish CBS would have some kind of contest - we would OWN it.
3. If you could make a relationship with Penny and another character from BBT (except for Sheldon) canon, who would it be?
Probably Raj - I've never read a fic with them together, but Raj is just adorable. If not him, then Bernadette...yes, I went there...
4. If you could time travel, where would you go?
Hmm, probably back to the 80s *shrugs* I was happiest then, when I was really young and innocent and stupid...
5. Boxers, boxer briefs, bikinis and briefs. Rank in order. ;)
Boxer briefs
boxers
bikinis
briefs...I'd rather deal with a banana hammock than tighty whiteys.
