Beautiful Lies, Damned Heroics and The Great Escape

Cut for very long explanations...

The names have been changed to protect the not so innocent. So last week was hell for me as we experienced a great problem at work. In role-playing terms all the players lost their character sheets (which were all stored in one place) and the resource book everyone wants has gone missing. Having restored the character sheets from old versions the players start to complain that they’ve lost a few ranks and abilities. So the clean up job is in progress, the DM isn’t talking to the players and the horde of Demon/Angel Helpers is spending most of the day saying "it will be done soon don’t worry". And how to I start my new week? Pretty much the same. So having allowed my demon self to run rampant I’m hoping this week my angel gets to give some good news in the near future

Yesterday we decided to further continue our quest to find out what had happened at a lonely outpost up in the hills. Having survived the attack of a group of raptors, I in my tinker habit scrounged claws from the carcass in the hope I could do something with it later. Unfortunately not my best idea as the next thing we know further up the path a huge predator sniffs his natural prey on me and follows the scent. I can’t outrun him and have no idea why he is chasing me. When the beast pounces on me with 5d10 damage there is no hope of survival for little old me who only has 9 hp at this point.

Thank good for action points. These are little things that can be used to save yourself from certain death. So one point down the beast hits my mount instead and then grabs me in its claws so it can have a good sniff at me. Sort of a "out of the frying pan into the fire" kind of thing. At least I’m not dead yet.

This close and personal to the big creature we suddenly realise why it attacked me and I realise I need to confuse its sense of smell. The only thing I can think of is a small poultice disk (one of my healing kit) that I hurriedly load into my slinger and shoot at the eye of the beast. (The nose being too close to hit) With a bout of luck that any player will envy I roll exactly the number I need to hit and the raptor tosses me around in pain and runs off, having landed me in some shrubs.

Feeling slightly warier but still not trusted to behave by the other players I head off in front with them behind. We end up in a very narrow gorge where we dismount and head onwards and upwards. The next thing I know I’ve set off a large flash and stumbling forward to steps I can hear myself set something else off as well. When my eyes clear, I notice that we have around 15 crossbows aimed our way by a rudimentary alarm system. Leaving the others to calm the beasts of burden so they don’t set the things off, I search ahead carefully to try to disable them. Only I fumble my roll and set the whole thing off.

Damn there goes another action point! Pitching myself forward at the last minute to deceive the targeting system I end up on my belly as arrows shot around me. When the dust settles I have an arrow in the sole of my boot, one has punctured and ruined all my healing potions. My goggles have taken a beating and my pack contents are scattered everywhere. The only scratch I seem to have is a nick on the edge of my ear as an arrow skimmed my head. So having survived yet again the other two send me out ahead to check for more traps.

Quote of the session: "I’ve been attacked, almost eaten and shot at and all you’re worried about is if I’ll blow you up!" <--A valid point mind you as I have explosives ;)

Now out of action points and feeling vulnerable I either need to be cautious from here on in or do something daftly heroic to get some new points to use. Hopefully the other two can be reckless without me. That is if I can curb my character’s curiosity that caused her to take a door apart to open it discarding the handle in the process.

Great escapes - Dusty the hamster has escaped again! This makes five times now. He never seems to use the same way twice. So having lost the hamster how to find him again? Solution look in the same place as usual. For some unknown reason he always escapes to the same place under the bed. To prove he’s a real RPG player’s hamster he was even asleep on top of my Warhammer box.

Tea’s so far: One so far…

computer, roleplay, work, hamster
