I just discovered how cool it is to be an asian. We have this long-time family friend staying with us, who's about my dad's age. And she's known me since I was a little toddler.
So we were all out to dinner today, and somehow, a discussion came up about marriage. My marriage. There were all the jokes going around as to who would choose my bride, what she would wear, what I would wear, where the wedding would be.....so funny. Here's a rough quote:
Friend: And I'm going to go around to at LEAST 4 different houses, at least. And I'm going to look at how the woman's family serves food, whether it's all fresh, or old, or stale. And I'm going to look at the curtains, to see if they're old-fashioned or relatively new, and...
Mom: And of course, we have to see if the bride is
Friend: Well, all that comes later. First you evaluate the general household, and THEN you look at the woman herself.
And of course, being Pakistani, there are endless jokes about how I should get married off right now, because I've already graduated eighth grade, which for the rural Pakistanis is all the education a man needs.
