RL: Support Down Syndrome Association

Sep 12, 2007 13:57

My childhood best friend (we've known each other a couple decades now) has a beautiful little girl named Wyatt:

Wyatt was born with Down's Syndrome and a hole in her heart. She's doing well now. For the past 3 years, Melanie and her family have attended the Inland Valley Buddy Walk. She sent me the below e-mail and I asked her permission to post it on my LJ to get the word out. It is my hope that if anyone can donate (even $5 is a lot!) they will. Plus if you have a lot of people on your flist and are willing, you could lend support by word of mouth... link to my post or to the website attached.

Thank you to all of my flisters for giving me this opportunity to tell you about such an important RL issue!

It's that time of year again
Greetings,

On Sunday, October 7th, we will be walking in the 6th Annual Inland Valley Buddy Walk. For us this will be the third walk we will be participating in. This year we signed up for the walk in Upland in hopes that more of you will be able to join us because it is closer. Which is why you are getting this email now and not for the one in Nov.

Last year because of your wonderful support we were able to raise just over $1500.00, we would like to match that again this year. Remember you do not have to come out and walk with us if you are unable, but please make a donation in support of Wyatt. If you are planning on joining us please let us know because we are making special T-shirts this year and want to make sure our whole walking team gets them this year.

As many of you know this year was hard in that once again our little one had to participate in heart surgery to correct a scaring issue. True to form, Wyatt never really missed a beat, but we have to give thanks to her surgeons and the money that goes into research that allows them to continue to make advances in all areas of hope.

I am asking you to Buddy Walk with us to make a difference for people with Down syndrome in our community and help Up For Down, the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles and the National Down Syndrome Society create change nationwide.
